A-Star Oil

On dec 11th, 2011, Astar oil came out to my house to clean my boiler for $110.00. I had them do the cleaning because the burner was short cycling or misfiring a few times before it would start. After they supposedly cleaned the boiler, I asked if it was still short cycling and they said it was running fine and that short cycling was sometime the system cleaning itself. When it continued to misfire after the "cleaning" I thought it was normal and let it go, assuming the techs had done their job. Over the next 3 weeks the problem had gotten progressively worse, until jan 3rd, 2012, when it was so bad it misfired continuously all day, leaving my family with no heat! I attempted to troubleshoot the problem, under the assumption it was not a cleaning issue since I had it "cleaned" by Astar only 3 weeks prior. When I could not figure out the problem, I called Astar back , who was not open 24 hours, and left a message. I then had to call another oil company who was open 24 hours to come out and figure out why the burner was malfunctioning. While I stood and watched that tech do his job, he showed me every part that Astar was supposed to clean and didn't. The burner nozzle and filter had a year's worth of carbon (soot) build up and he confirmed that Astar had in fact not cleaned the boiler or had not done it properly. After leaving a message on Astar's voice mail on the night when I had no heat do to their lack of service, I did not receive a call back from them until Jan 6th. fortunately I had called the other oil company or I would have been without heat for 3 days in January waiting for Astar to call! Once they did call me back the owner of the company was completely rude and unwilling to accept fault. while I admit I was angry, he returned only anger at me instead of trying to resolve the issue. he then basically told me that the other oil company, who showed me the parts he did not clean, was lying! I will never use Astar oil again and I highly recommend no one else do either. I originally choose Astar because they were cheaper then everyone else at $110. the other oil company was closer to $300. I would rather pay $300 the first time and know it was done right, then pay over $400 total because the cheap guy didn't do the work!
