A to Z Tree Service Reviews (4)

We hired A to Z to remove a tree in our backyard and to trim another (tree branches were growing into the power lines)

[redacted] from A to Z came to give us a quote. He stressed how "professional" he was compared to others. We specifically asked about the stump grinding after reading someone else's complaint at the Revdex.com. He assured us it wouldn't be a problem, despite the fact we had a fenced in yard with no gate. We decided to hire him.

Three weeks later, after several calls, we finally got a date to have the tree removed. That morning, he called and cancelled due to illness. A few days later, he called and rescheduled.

The actual tree removal went well. His team came in and took down the tree. They did have several branches fall on the cable line (which he had said he'd take down during the quote, but they "worked around it"). The cable line now hangs much lower than it used to. We'll end up paying the cable company to raise it.

When they went to leave, I said "Hey, you said you would haul all the wood away." He mad a call and said someone would be by to pick up. When I asked about the stump grinding, he began to backpedal.

"I didn't know you didn't have a gate."

Total lie, as I specifically asked that question during the quote. Then he said we would have to take down a section of our fence. That's not what was quoted. Then he said he could charge me to take down the fence. Again, I said that wasn't what we agreed upon. Finally, he agreed to take down the section of fence himself to get the stump grinder in.

Days later, he left us a voice mail saying it wasn't worth it for him to move the fence and offered us a $25 discount. You cannot get someone to grind a stump for $25.

We called and he finally agreed that if we took down that section of fence, he would get the stump grinded and he would put the fence back up.

A week later, someone showed up, never knocked, went into our yard, ground the stump, and left....leaving the fence down. We finally gave up, spent the hour putting the fence back up (with the help of a great neighbor) and left [redacted] a message that we were unsatisfied.

Be aware that no matter what you agree to, this business will do what they please.

I contacted A to Z to remove 2 large trees and grind stumps. The owner of A to Z came to our house on 7-11-14, gave us a written estimate, and said he would "put us on his schedule" for the week of 7-21-14, two weeks later. When he did not show to do the work 2 weeks later, I called & left a message. The owner called me back & asked if I "was sure" that he HAD been out to our house, and had given us an estimate! I reminded him about the conversation at our house on 7-11-14. He then said he did remember, but had penciled it on the side of his calendar. He was sorry. He then said he would be out on July 30 or 31. He did not come or call. I called him, and learned he had "sort of a family emergency". He was sorry. He rescheduled for 8-4-13. No show again: 2 "sick" workers. He rescheduled AGAIN for 8-11-14. No show AGAIN: one guy "sick", one at a funeral. 4 no shows and an "'are you sure'I gave you an estimate?" has been enough for me. I told A to Z NOT to cut our trees. I will find a responsible business to do the work.

Review: I hired A to Z Tree Service to remove a Red Maple tree and remove the Stump in my front yard. The tree was removed on 9/21/12 and they were paid in full, my check #[redacted],to the amount of $369.25, their work order #[redacted]. The stump was to be removed in 3 to 4 days. After a week the stump was still not removed. I called and was told they had equipment problems but it would be removed the following week. One week later they still didn't complete the job. I called and was told that his son would be there to do it this week (guaranteed). The next week still a no show. I called and was told to mark the utility lines, which I did the same day. They still didn't complete the job. I called again and was told they were going to subcontract the job out because he can't get his son to come and do the job. He guaranteed (again) the job would be completed Friday or Saturday 10/19 or 10/20. It is now Sunday 10/21 and I still have a stump in the middle of my yard that looks terrible on one of the busiest streets in Green BayDesired Settlement: I want them to immediately finish the job they were contracted to do, and we paid in good faith to complete. I also think they should refund my money because of a breech of contract and the false promises that were made. This is not a company any one should do business with and every one needs to know

Response:

I received your letter refering to a complaint filed by [redacted]. I was hired by Mr. [redacted] to remove a Red Maple and the

stump in his front yard. The tree was removed as agreed to. My company

does not directly remove stumps, we outsourse all of our stump

grinding. The company contracted to grind the stump at Mr. [redacted]'s

property had some equipment issues and continuously had delays getting

to his property. I comunicated to Mr. [redacted] and asked he be patient

as equipment breakdowns are common in the stump grinding industry.

After several weeks I felt it necessary to call in a different stump

grinding company to take care of Mr. [redacted]'s stump not wanting him to

have to wait any longer. The stump was ground and I refunded the

amount for grinding the stump to Mr. [redacted]. I believe I took

appropriate action to have the stump completed at Mr. [redacted]'s

property, appologised for the delay, and believe he is now satisfied

with the work performed and the refund for the stump gringing.
