A Towing

Review: Due to unknowingly parking in a snow emergency route on February 12, 2014, my vehicle was towed to A Towing, LLC, located at [redacted]. On Thursday morning, Feb. 13th, I spoke with an employee of A Towing, who told me that I could come in anytime after 12:30 that day (Feb. 13th) to pick up my vehicle. I took the metro to [redacted] and, due to bus service cancelation, walked 2.5 miles to A Towing. Due to un-shoveled sidewalks and wet precipitation, my health and life were put to risk during this walk to A Towing. Upon my arrival around 3:45pm, I was told that I could not retrieve my vehicle, despite having been told earlier on the phone that I could, because the lot had not been cleared of snow. I was told that I would not be charged for the day's storage or the following day. The following day, February 15th, I called A Towing, and was told that I could retrieve my vehicle and that it would cost $175. When I said that Tree, an employee of A Towing, had told me that I would not be charged for storage for Feb 13th or 14th, the employee told me that the $175 consisted of the towing fee and charge for storage on the night of the 12th. He also told me that the credit charge machine was down. I asked if I could pay with a check and he said that they did not accept checks for impounded vehicles. I asked him if he was saying that I needed to bring cash, and he said yes. Upon reviewing my rights listed at the DC Government's website, [redacted] I see that A Towing is only allowed to charge me $100 for a tow, plus a storage fee of $20 per 24 hours. I also have the right to pay "by cash; insurance draft; money order; bank or certified check; or credit card (at least 2 nationally-known)". Ultimately, upon being confronted with this website, A Towing charged me $120.Desired Settlement: This is a dishonest business and I would like them to be held accountable for their actions, so that future customers will not be charged illegal amounts.
