Review: In November the [redacted] was contracted to build an 84ft iron fence with a dual swing entry gate. Problems were encountered soon after. The exact same materials were used from the panels to build the gate and so the gate is indistinguishable from the fence panels, and does not resemble a proper gate, a thicker frame on the gate should of been used instead of using the same thickness used in the fence panels, this was done to save money and the gate was not built correctly with metal hinges being welded too close together and not spread out and all of this has resulted in a gate that doesnt feel solid or sturdy and is hitting the ground, an adjustment was made to the gate, but the same symptoms are reoccurring. [redacted] the [redacted] has previously admitted that he went "cheap" on the project and it shows and has made no attempt to remedy the situation. The gate was "spray can painted" and there are areas of the paint that has completely come off exposing the underneath bare metal. The gate he build does not resemble a proper gate and so to correlate my findings I sought the opinion of another fence company so which I contacted [redacted] from [redacted], and the [redacted] after looking at pictures of the work [redacted] performed is "too embarrassed to even park his truck anywhere near his work" and has pointed the same flaws Ive mentioned above.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund or replacement of the gate. Either, a partial refund for the gate portion of the contract or have a new gate build. [redacted] was paid by personal checks in total $3120 for the project.

Response:

Mr. [redacted] wanted a 84ft. iron fence with a dual gates. I quoted him $3700 he said can you do 3100. I said yes only if we use thinner material . Mr. [redacted] agreed to it only if I added an additional 20ft. wood fence on the side of house. I told him it will be a light weight gate. Thanks

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Regards,

There is no mention in the contract of a "light weight gate" also the problems I am currently experiencing with the gates (constantly hitting the ground, wobbly, paint coming off in several areas, etc.) are due to the hinges being installed in the wrong locations and not being spaced out sufficiently enough and because of inadequate material being used to reinforced the gate (thin materials). The only way I see this issue with the gate being resolved is for it to be rebuild with the proper materials and procedures.
