I sent a $300 deposit to the dealership to hold a car for me. I got financing but have signed no contracts. I decided not to buy the car and asked for my deposit back. The owner (***) said I would get it back only if I signed the papers. I said you are holding my money hostage, that is not right. I said I would not be buying the car from him. He said I could only get the deposit if I went in person but I fear for my safety if I go back.
At first, I did not understand that he wanted his money back or that he was backing out. The deposit was meant to hold vehicle down for him, as he has admitted himself. The emails below kind of explain the whole scenario. I gave him his money back, and he still seemed dissatisfied. His financing was approved, and he was ready to sign papers, then he all of the sudden pulled out of the agreement. There was never a threat to him, and he was never in any danger. I simply prefer to exchange in person rather than use E-transfer, as I am not 100% comfortable with it yet, hence why I asked him to come in to claim the money during our operating hours.
