Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

The young man who towed our van away is not telling his employer the truth.   I have several witnesses present when I requested the parts first by phone with this young man and then also took a young man in with me when I picked up the van and requested they return ALL parts.  ** told me they thew them away, except for the rotor.  The parts were under warranty and in no way would I not want them.   That would at least put $60 back in our pocket.  We took the van to our garage here and they gave me a written statement that there was absolutely NOTHING wrong with the other brakes or rotors.  Also, why was the "free" diagnostic not included on the bill or explained to me that it was the choice of the 10% discount or the diagnostic?  As to the cost of the brake fluid I can't comment, but certainly don't trust their answer in light of the lies told so far.

Review: Had problem with driver side rear caliper, resulting in damaged brake pad and rotar. **, who towed our vehicle, called and said all brakes and pads were damaged because of the issue with drivers side wheel rear caliper. Said cost would be $900+. We called our garage back home and they informed us that the driverside caliper would NOT cause that kind of damage to the rest of the brakes and that he was ripping us off. We told ** to just repair the damaged wheel brakes, rotor and caliper and to return the brakes and rotor to us because they were under warranty. He then called us back and said the cost was $412 for the one repair. I have AAA and I don't see my discount on the bill, he failed to return the brake pad (said it was thrown out) and overcharged us for parts. $20 for brake fluid when it's only about $5 for an entire can. We drove the car home with no problems, took it to the garage and they said there was nothing wrong with the rest of the brakes, rotors or calipers. ** also said that he test drove the vehicle to make sure that it would run properly but on the bill he noted that the mileage was 48903 coming in and 48903 going out. Apparently he didn't test drive the vehicle at all. I'd like to know how 4 repairs could cost less than $1000 but 1 repair was over $400.Desired Settlement: I would like the 10% refund I should have had with my AAA membership, a refund for brake fluid and a full refund for the rear brake they threw out.

$15.00 for brake fluid

$41.22 for AAA discount

$60.00 for brake pads that should have been returned to us

________

$116.22

Dear [redacted],

I am writing to you to address the complaint filed against us by [redacted]. the following is our account of what happened in response to her repairs. I am not sure how I am suppose to respond to you in the reference to the complaint ID # [redacted]. I was unable to find a way thru your web page so I am e-mail you and sending a fax to ###-###-####. In my fax I have included the hand written shop report dropped by the tow truck driver and the repair bill signed and credit card payment by the above customer.

Mechanic looked over car and found that car's rear caliper was seized, damaging rotor and brake pads. He also examined all the other components in the brake system including the front and rear rotors and brakes and found that rotor's were glazed and grooved. Mechanic called customer and made her aware of total cost for repairs needed and recommended which included, Front brakes and rotors, rear brakes and rotors, 1 rear caliper, full service of brake system due to brake system having rusted and dark brake fluid. Estimate given was with tax included. Customer called back after speaking with someone and stated to mechanic she only wanted rear caliper, brake pads one side, rotor one side, and brake fluid service only. He made her aware of price with free diagnostic because she is a AAA member, price before tax was $379.46 there is nothing I can do about the tax of $32.73 that I am required by NYS to charge on all purchases and she oked repairs to be performed at that time with no complaint. She did seem very annoyed with the prior shop that performed the original repairs, that she had spoken to early. At no time did she say she wanted the original parts back. Customer came payed for repair and when asked if she wanted parts stated she did not want greasy parts in her car. I believe the misunderstanding with cost of repair stems from members confusion in thinking that the original price given included calipers for all wheels that is not what she was told. She was told the repair would include the following Front brakes and rotors both sides, rear brakes and rotors both sides, 1 rear caliper, full service of brake system. When customer called back she stated she wanted the minimum amount of repairs done, we installed 1 set of rear brake pads one side, one caliper, one rotor and brake system service. We also had to charge $20 brake fluid due to the fact we had to drain the system bleed system and refill. It took multiple flushes to clear system. We also apply a small mark up on parts house prices. The discount member is talking about is that AAA free diagnostic or 10% of the repair which ever is higher. We gave member the free AAA diagnostic which includes going over the car removing wheels if needed checking brake system to find the failure and evaluating if any other repairs are needed or recommended , pricing out parts, locating parts, etc... The cost of Diagnostic is $99.95 which was not charged to customer. To address the matter of not driving the car, service writer made a typo, his sheet was looked over and original mileage in was 48901 I have copies of the original hand written service ticket. I also have two eye witnesses that saw the mechanic leave on a test drive and come back. He wanted to make sure there where no leaks and no other calipers, hose etc.. where bad in the system.

A-1 Car Care North is a family owned company that stands behind its work, I fell we did everything in our power to diagnose, fix and get member back on the road safely.
