AA Defined Exteriors

We moved into a new home where a deck was built by the builder on our second floor above our concrete patio. On top of this, the builder did NOT frame above the deck, so in the rainy months, we had no outside space since water would go right through the deck to our patio below. I contacted a handful of deck companies and Mike immediately stood out. It was clear he enjoyed and took pride in his work, only doing things the right way, which is hard to come by today (in stark contrast to some of the contractors who the builder used to build our new home). Mike had done jobs like this before and walked us through in detail how he would accomplish this. None of the other companies I contacted (all A rated on ***) were able to do this, some of them even saying the had never done this. When work started, I watched as Mike's team meticulously made sure to waterproof and make custom adjustments to the underside of our deck. This took days (in a good way) of 100% custom work to make sure that doing this wouldn't result in any kind of water damage and that water would flow to a custom built drain at the end of the deck. It's been about 6 months now and we couldn't be happier with the result. We were able to finally turn our down stairs patio into an outdoors space we could enjoy, hanging lights, adding a hot tub, and retractable privacy shades. If we were every building a new deck or making another modification to our existing deck, I would only call Mike.

AA Defined Exteriors removed two aging cedar decks and replaced them with an expanded single Aztec deck running the entire length of the house. Mike suggested design elements in the surface, and those ultimately made a huge difference in the appearance of what is 700 square feet of surface. Without the design, the deck would have been pretty "blah." The construction crew of Kevin, Ben and Josh were professional. I have a "crafted" deck that adds an entirely new dimension to this home. During the month of work, the guys kept the site neat and tidy -- Kevin even brought his blower to knock off leaves and maple seeds after a big windstorm. Having two or three extra guys around the house for a month could have been a hassle, but they were delightful people, considerate of the tight parking situations -- and especially kind to make sure the doggie door always had a stairway for the aging canines to go in and out as needed -- even when the deck work was happening right at that doorway. The deck is a beautiful thing, and the experience was enjoyable.

We bought a 1926 house with multiple layers of past half-completed construction, which has made the process of renovation quite challenging. When we began the process of replacing and changing the size and type of our windows, we talked to multiple different companies and we were told wildly contradictory and ultimately inaccurate information by other companies about the complexity and the scope of the project.

When we contacted Mike Calabrese of Defined Exteriors, he was able to quickly assess our house and offer us a competitive quote for our custom window project. He answered all of our questions clearly and never once made us feel as if our questions or concerns were either silly or inconveniencing to him.

Kevin came to our house and did much of the actual framing for the new windows, and we could not have been more pleased with both the process and the end result: Kevin was professional, courteous, communicative, efficient and did phenomenal work. Work began promptly on time each morning and the work site was impeccably cleaned each evening.

The work was completed on time and met or exceeded all of our expectations, Mike was always available to us if questions or concerns came up, and there was literally zero headache associated with the entirety of the project.

In short, I cannot recommend Defined Exteriors highly enough. When we are ready to build a deck, I have no doubt that we will hire Mike and his team to come back, and I am completely certain that they will once again provide excellent service and a phenomenal end product.

Very happy with finished product. Had med size 2nd story back deck built with underdecking system and 4 pane sliding door to the deck. Mike C is very knowledgeable and service-oriented. He works hard for your business and to ensure that you are happy with his company's work. His deck builder, Kevin, is a craftsman and did a great job. While there were some hiccups, those can happen, and it's really how one responds that provides insight into who you are dealing with. Mike went above and beyond to ensure we were happy with the finished product. That is service. This was an expensive project and Mike C delivered.

AA Defined rebuilt a front porch and added french doors for us. The work was done on time, on budget and hassle free. The workmanship was outstanding with the composite decking and aluminum railings matching our existing back deck. They were friendly, responsive and timely. I would rehire them and highly recommend their services.
