AA Quality Moving Reviews (1)

Review: Last month, I had what was unquestionably the WORST moving experience I've ever had with Quality Movers. I asked for 3 movers. What I got were two lazy guys who spent more time on their phones and sitting around than actually working, and one guy who pretended to supervise, and was very rude to myself and my wife. Every time I went down to the truck to check up on them, they would be sitting around, joking, etc. The big guy was particularly pathetic. I watched him move part of a very light bedframe down the stairs, bumping it on ever stair on the way down, chipping the wood considerably.

When we got to the final destination, we were notified that we needed to pay them cash upfront before they would open the locked moving truck. The guy in charge added up the bill (which included paying up front for an estimation that it would take 2 hours to unload the truck) and demanded that we pay. The amount they charged was astounding. What was supposed to be $65 / hour, as their [redacted] ad suggested, wound up being $827. They had all of our belongings for our new house inside and wouldn’t let us have them until we paid. What choice did we have? We paid the cash. As soon as the movers opened the door something fell on a glass-framed painting, smashing it to pieces. Lots of other large items were scattered around, had fallen over or were upside down, as they hadn't been properly secured. It looked as if they had never loaded a truck before, and just piled everything inside carelessly. While moving an end table, the guy in charge of the other two had an argument with one and stormed off saying, “I’m done!” He sat in the front of the truck on his phone while myself, my wife and her sister wound up practically unloading the whole truck ourselves. I hired movers so I wouldn't have to put to much strain on my back, which has sustained several injuries, and wound up working far harder than the help.

Not to mention, I was SHOCKED by all the hidden costs. How this came to $827 is utterly beyond me. (Paying for gas, travel time from the movers homes, charging $30 to go up and down each set of stairs, and $150 “refundable” insurance. NONE of this was in the originally advertisement, which was removed from [redacted] shortly after making a reservation with the company. The ad only specified three movers would come with their moving truck at a rate of $65 per hour.) And remember that we were forced to pay cash upfront to retrieve our items from the locked moving truck.

In any event, I was advised we would be getting a $300 refund within 2-3 business days. This covers the insurance refund, the extra hour of loading off that wasn't necessary because we did most of the work (more quickly and efficiently than these incompetent guys), the shattered glass and minus the set of stairs in the new house. (I didn't even want these guys going up the stairs. They would have DEFINITELY chipped the fresh coat of paint on the walls and broken more things.) They said it would be mailed directly to our home. Weeks went by and of course we didn’t receive anything. I called the phone number given to me several times (###-###-####) and was quickly assured that it was on its way in the mail. Then they would hang up before I could ask further questions. When I looked up the two addresses given to me ([redacted], and [redacted].; both in Brooklyn) they do not appear to be moving companies. I believe that this is a complete scam, and am very upset that we have been taken advantage of. When talking with the guy in charge about the refund (on the day of the move) the name of the company changed. First it was Smart Moving, then it changed to Quality Movers (email address: [redacted]) Also, the name of the man he said was in charge doesn’t exist ([redacted]).

I was so sickened by the service we were provided and the extremely high cost it came at. Hiring a moving company was supposed to simplify this stressful time for us, but it just added to our worries and financial woes and was an absolute nightmare from start to finish.

I have a picture of the broken glass on the picture frame. Saying they were going to give us $30 for that is a joke, being that it cost $100 to frame. Additionally, our new wood bedframe was chipped and scratched in several places and one of the pieces went missing (modification plate which they do not sell in stores), so we are unable to reassemble it. We have been sleeping on the mattress on the floor. Unfortunately, we will have to buy a new bed frame.

If it helps I have the license plate number of the moving truck. It was an Iowa plate and the number is [redacted].Desired Settlement: We would like the refund that we were promised in writing (on the back of the bill that we received on the day of the move).

$150 for "refundable insurance", $65 for an hour that we were billed for upfront that the workers didn't work, $30 for each flight of stairs that they didn't walk, $50 for the broken glass on the painting frame, and $100 for a new bed frame. The total we would like refunded is $425.
