Dear *** ***,We recently received your correspondence with above reference# for a complaint registered for a customer ** *** * *** ***'s complaint is incorrect in his assuming that because there is grass growing into driveway from the edges that we "clearly feathered out the
edges instead of insuring the appropriate thickness of the asphalt"Not only is this incorrect, but is questioning the integrity of AAA Paving, IncWe have been in business going on years now, and as you would know, we have had no complaints from our customersWe actually stay as busy as we can possibly be from referral business from satisfied customers** *** was informed when we replaced his driveway that the edges are the weakest area on any driveway, simply because they must be “hand-tamped” as opposed to being rolled with 2.5ton roller as the rest of the driveway is doneBecause of this we inform all of our customers to avoid crossing over these edges with anything heavy(ie-driving car off of side, commercial lawnmowers and other landscaping equipment, and generally anything with fairly substantial weight.) It is obvious that these instructions were not followed, as when I went to inspect his driveway to resolve his complaint, the only area observed that did not look like a new driveway (year later) was some very hairline surface cracks along some of the edgesI sent ** *** an email stating that I would have the owner look at the driveway, as I really did not see the “major damage" that he was talking aboutCertainly not any depression he was claiming from tire marks at top of the driveway by the garageWhen the owner stopped by ** ***'s residence to inspect, he too agreed that the instructions not to cross over the sides of the driveway had not been followed, as these hairline cracks were only in certain areas of the edges, rather than throughoutWhen this was mentioned to ** *** his response was that he doubted a lawnmower would cause the sides to crack, pretty much admitting that this had been donein addition to not following the general maintenance instructions, ** *** did not continue to keep the grass edged along the sides of the driveway, as we had done when we replaced his drivewayThe type of grass that is prevalent in this neighborhood is called wire or zoysia grass, which is similar to crab grass but is strongerWe edged the entire driveway when we replaced, yet a combination of the edges being allowed to weaken and not keeping this grass edged, has allowed this grass to work its way into the edge of the asphaltWe offered to extend his warranty past the year to give us time to analyze the problem during our busiest time of the season, as well as are willing to make a return trip to his residence to treat this grass with defoliant spray, such as a commercial strength round-upWe will even edge the sides of the driveway for him, but he must understand that this is general homeowner maintenance that is his do this for himAs far as his assumption that we feathered the asphalt at the edges, it is very easy to verify this with what is called a bore testI think ** *** would see then that we did not feather out the sides as he assumes and would possibly accept the fact that he needs to perform the minimal maintenance required to keep this from happening in the future or getting worse.AAA Paving, Inc###-###-####-office Aaapaving @***.com
