I'm active duty in the service. I have told ADT I would only be training in my location for 3 months then moving. They are fighting on my lawn dailyI am an active duty service member. I feel that ADT has really tied me and my family into a bind. I rented a home in a very nice up scale neighborhood for the safety of my family. Well we hadn't even been moved into our rent house for 2 hours and already had ADT at our door! The salesman had lied and told us that our neighborhood had shootings and robberies daily. We then proceeded to tell him that we wouldn't be needing the alarm system because I was only in North Carolina for training for three months. Then moving again. Well After hearing his over dramatic stories I then told him a final time no. He said well what if I let you have a "free" pass for a month , then if you don't like it you may call my "personal" secretary and cancel no fees no hassle no problems! Haha! That was a joke!!! My wife and I didn't use the alarm more then a few days. Then I had her call to cancel because we were under the impression that we would be able to and they wouldn't let her because I had signed a 3 year contract!!!!! I couldn't believe that ADT would try to rip of a service member. Now I'm trying to cancel for the simple reason that I'm going on deployment and I'm sending my family back home to be with family. They're not allowing me to cancel unless I get permanent orders to be stationed somewhere. Which won't happen until I'm back from deployment 9 months after the fact. I have a family. I don't make a lot. I have student loans, I'm in debt already I cannot afford to cancel this fee due to a phony salesman . Granted I should have sat down and looked it over but I didn't think anyone would try to screw me. He knew I just drove 36 hours straight no stopping and I'm very upset! I cannot stress the problems that I have had trying to cancel. My wife has gotten in a full out screaming match on our front porch asking them to cancel and arguing with the exact salesman that told us we had a month to try it out . My wife was diagnosed with cancerDesired SettlementSorry I wasn't able to finish my last sentence my phone won't allow me to go back. So back to my wife had to go to be rushed to the hospital due to the heated argument my wife has a very rare cancer she can't handle even the smallest tasks without having a seizure. So this argument caused a lot of pain for her. As for me I had the same guy call me and hound me about paying my bill. We'll I'm not behind on my bill so why is he calling me? He kept threatening me with court and saying that it's sad that I couldn't afford a pathetic $50 home system. I have never been disrespected in my life! All I want is to be able to cancel my service at Business Response /[redacted]/The customer entered into a contract with the following company who handled the sale and installation of the system:AAA SECURITY SYSTEMS INC 1205 ARENDELL ST STE DMOREHEAD CITY, NC XXXXX-XXXXXXX-XXX-XXXXPlease forward this on to the correct company. Consumer Response /[redacted]/Our home is under a rent to buy program we technically do and don't own the property anymore. The property is in "trust" held by the two men buying our home. We also called to cancel the system within the first week but we googled & called the actual "ADT" company they told us they basically tricked us because there wasn't such thing as a "trail" period so in other words oh hey you fell for the number one common trick the we do to everyone but hey here's two months free so that's where the "64 days" came from. Congratulations you pulled up a "SOLD HOME" as explained that we are almost done completing the deed on the house. My husband wouldn't be deployed until March 2015 as explained during this heated discussion. I had told them we were moving my husband would be deploying and were going back home. As discussed the monitor cant cut us "permanent orders" until after deployment so we would be paying for a system that was promised to be a trial.ADT wants us to pay over a year and a half of $50 for a system we wouldn't be able to use. My husband dedicates his life for people that purposely take advantage of the military. They want to "threaten" to "sue" us for a mis interpretation of horrible salesman. NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES YOU TELL THEM NO THEY NEVER LEAVE YOU ALONE! NEVER!!! SHAMEFULL and PITIFUL Final Business Response /[redacted]/I have been an ADT Authorized Dealer since 1998 and have never had such slanderous statements perpetrated against my company as this! To say that I had "purposely taken advantage against the military" or anyone else, I find very offensive. Over the past 16 years, my company has installed thousands of security systems in Eastern NC. Out of those thousands of systems we have sold and installed, there is not one single complaint stating we sold any system by trying to "trick" people with a "trail" period. There is not one complaint with the, the North Carolina Alarms Board, or ADT Corporate stating we have ever been guilty of this type of trickery! The legal record shows you purchased the house. What you're doing with it now has nothing to do with the contract.For your information, Ref #3 shows every conversation this customer had with ADT and the fact is, that ADT never told the customer that they were "TRICKED". The fact remains, we invested a system in your home to protect you and your family. You signed and initialed numerous documents we have provided copies of that clearly informed you as to the terms and conditions of your obligation under the contract. The presentation was solid, the contract is solid (being signed and initialed with all the explanations, terms and conditions). This seems to be a case of buyers remorse which does not justify all these unproven complaints. The simple solution would be to include in the rent-to-buy program of your home, the cost of the security system to the new owner which would allow you to pay off your contract to satisfy your legal obligation.
