Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2016/07/18) */
Mr. [redacted]:
Thanks, I received your email with a copy of your deal with Subaru of Fort Wayne. I reviewed your file in great detail, and followed up with Hometown Auto Group to clarify a few things. They indicate you took the vehicle to them...

back on 3/19/15 when the vehicle overheated. They serviced the vehicle and replaced the radiator. About 6 months later on 9/10/15 the vehicle went back to them to check the steering and suspension. An alignment was performed. The vehicle went back to our insured 10/7/15 to check the steering and suspension for loose or worn parts. Then on 12/3/15 they checked the vehicle for coolant system leaks. They performed a chemical head gasket test, pressure test and replaced the water pump and timing belt tensioner. They indicate the gasket test came back normal because it was later found that the gasket seal had been put in the vehicle which was masking the problem and damage to the block. Our insured does acknowledge there was an issue with the timing belt when they replaced the water pump, and that they refunded your money in full upon request. However, they are adamant they did not put any gasket seal in your vehicle. Our insured states they would never recommend gasket seal for your vehicle as it only masks the underlying problem. If gasket seal had been discussed with you or put in your vehicle, our insured states they would have noted that in your service history and you would have been charged for the product. The gasket seal is why our insured and Subaru had a hard time diagnosing the damage to your block which can happen when your vehicle overheats. We are not sure who put gasket seal in your vehicle. All we know is our insured is denying ever putting this in your vehicle. We are only able to evaluate and respond to claims based on the available evidence. We have found any evidence that our insured was responsible, and they already refunded your money for the timing belt issue. With all of this in mind, we must respectfully deny your claim. If we are missing anything, please let us know. We are happy to consider any new evidence for your claim.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2016/07/18) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The main issue of overheating was never solved. The car has only been taken to two repair shops. Hometown and Bob Rohrmans. The later only diagnosed the issues that were done to the car before any items were repaired. The items that were installed incorrectly by Hometown are the radiator/ and the radiator hoses( backwards also) The heater core was full of the stop leak stuff( which the hoses were installed backwards on that as well) when Hometown replaced it. The water pump was installed incorrectly ( Bolts were loose and when they installed the water pump one of the pump threads had been cross threaded and loose). This is where the main issue started. If these items were installed correctly there would be no issue. What the insurance failed to say in the report was the water pump is tied to the timing belt which was removed and a new one was installed with a new water pump. When you normally change the water pump on the newer cars you replace the water pump and the timing belt. So the insurance failed in the attempt to prove that this was a none issue. Do to the fact they missed the complete main issue of the water pump. These facts that were given to the insurance company was by [redacted] at Hometown. He himself gave the facts that were incorrect in trying to not take responsibility for leaving out the water pump issue. In fact if Hometown would have replaced the water pump and the timing chain correctly we would not be where we are today. Our car was at Hometown approx. over a six weeks time. Not at one time but in multiple day's added up. At one of the last few times we took the cart back to Hometown due to the heater being cold on one side and hot on the other. [redacted] told me that we did not bring our car in for that problem!! I =n fact that was tied to the heater core being installed wrong from the get go.
In all by not installing the water pump and the timing chain along with the leak at the water pump correctly. it set in motion a set of items that could have been prevented. By not installing the previous correctly the engine kept overheating. Hometown kept removing the next in line of items that may be the problem. The radiator. The heater core. the hoses being installed incorrectly. made the engine keep over heating. This led to the last cylinder in the main engine block and the block head to warp. All these items lead back to pour workmanship / quality of ownership of Hometown. The last time we had our Subaru at Hometown. [redacted] told my wife that you just need to take it somewhere else. Were done. My complete amd main issue I want my money back for what Hometown screwed up. I have all the receipts/ Parts that were damaged due to pour workmanship. Radiatior/ Heater coil/ timing belt etc. I will be able to show what the pour workmanship got us.
Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 12, 2016/07/27) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Hometown Auto is trying to cover up the issue with the radiator overheating which was the main issue we brought the car in for. They never addressed the block and the head being warped due to the lack of coolant getting to this particular area of the engine.
The actual issue with the car was the water pump was not working correctly to begin with. That is where they started to fix. This is also the place that Hometown screwed up the installation of the water pump. The pumps bolts were cross threaded and not tight which let the car keep leaking coolant. Thus not getting coolant to the other parts of the block engine. Again I have all the parts that Hometown installed and the either installed correctly or damaged with the pour workmanship. I will also say that talking to the insurance company [redacted] was not honest in the items that he told the insurance person on what actually happened to the car while in Hometowns possession. The cars water heater failed again after the first installation. After the third installation Hometown made us pay for the third water pump. Which we did. That is what Hometown did refund our money for the third time after we complained that I was taking the car to another reputable dealer for the repairs and also to the Revdex.com. They never refunded our money for the shoddy workmanship on any of the repair and parts replacement before the third waterpump. If they would have installed the waterpump correctly the first and second time we would not be where we are today. I will not accept this lame excuse that they gave us a refund. I have all the receipts from all the so called repairs. Etc. The refund was after all the items had been replaced and paid for. He refunded us for only the third Waterpump and not all the money we had spent to have the car fixed in the first place. The car was no closer to being fixed after the six week period and around the $4200 mark. Hometown needs to stand up and be reputable company knowing that they screwed up our entire engine.
