801-410-7757Vehicle Information:Year: 1999Make: BMWModel: 323iMiles: 188,613Service Date: 3/25/2016Revdex.com: Complaint Date: 6/03/ Customer Complaint:Customer called in stating they were in town driving up a canyon and felt something "came loose and now my car only has 5th gear" (manual transmission).Initial Phone Recommendation (vehicle not inspected):Do NOT drive the vehicle any further It should be towed in so as to not cause further damage.Customer response: I have to drive it in I don't have any money for a tow truck.Customer asked for a "phone diagnosis." We recommended we get a tow truck to tow in the vehicle so that we can properly diagnose and service the vehicle It is impossible to diagnose a automotive problem properly over the phone having NEVER inspected the vehicle.Customer self diagnosed the vehicle as bad clutch and insisted we give a price (sight unseen) Our response: Having never inspected the vehicle we have no idea It depends the damage to the vehicle Customer got increasingly upset (bad situation being stranded) and insisted we give a price We responded with depending on the damage to the vehicle, clutches on a BMW range between $and $- again depending on the damage DO NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE.Vehicle Diagnosis Friday 3/25/2016:Against professional advice, the customer drove the vehicle (in 5th gear) from one of the East Side Canyons over the the West side of the Salt Lake Valley to AAMCO Taylorsville.Upon arrival, the vehicle not being checkor inspected, the stench of burning clutch, transmission fluid and motor oil was OVERWHELMING.Diagnostic results:Code: Fuel System small leakCode: Fuel System leakCode: Exhaust CamshaftRemove and replace the clutchremove and replace the flywheelPossibly there will be the need to remove and replace the slave cylinder (unable to determine until disassembly)remove and replace transmission fluid - burnt and evidence of metal - internal failure.Given it was a Friday, and we were working on a BMW, parts are hard to come by.The customer was informed of the following:Parts will be delayed as they have to be ordered.Once parts are here and the clutch installed, we will have to re-test the transmission as it may have failedCost to remove and replace the Clutch, Flywheel and Labor would be $(pre-tax and disposal fees) If the slave or the transmission are damaged, that will be in addition to that estimate.Authorization:Customer authorized the aforementioned repairs and conditions on 3/25/at 2:48pm There was one problem The customer did not have any money to pay for the repairs Customer insisted it was our responsibility to get them back on the road asap and to cover the costs of any delays (we had not even started any repairs at this time) Of course we refused to be liable for their problem and any associated costs We put the customer in contact with a finance company who subsequently approved them for $to cover the repairs Any thing over $would be the responsibility of the customer and could not be financed.Repairs Completed:Slave Cylinder was in need of being replaced: Customer would NOT authorize the replacement of the Slave cylinder Wednesday 3/30/- We completed the authorized repairs (Clutch, Flywheel, and Labor). After completion, we retested both the transmission and slave cylinder and came to the conclusion that the transmission needed to be placed along with the Slave cylinder Customer did not authorize neither repair. While we make every effort to assist and serve all our customers, we can not be held responsible for customers who:1) Go against our professional advise causing more and excessive damage, and drive their car in anyway2) Do not authorized needed repairs3) Do not have money for needed repairs4) Have a year old, poorly maintained, car break down in the middle of their trip to UtahWe regret that Mr*** is having issues with his vehicle and wish him the best.Your Friends atAAMCO TaylorsvilleWest SouthTaylorsville, UT 84129Ph: 801-410-7757Email: [email protected]: aamco-taylorsvilleut.com
