Ms. [redacted] did indeed come in for transmission service. After repairs were made, an ABS issue, unrelated to the transmission repairs, occurred. Ms. [redacted]'s vehicle was indeed brought in to the Nissan dealership because the...

repairs were beyond our expertise. It is unfortunate that the need for these additional repairs occurred; however, it is no way correlated to her having the vehicle repaired at our facility.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 12, 2014/07/02) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
While repairs were made to the transmission, the car was still not driving correctly when the ABS light came on, as I was told by the manager. The vehicle was taken to the Nissan dealership without consulting with me prior and asking my permission, so I was given no choice in where I wanted the vehicle taken and was given no choice in having to pay Nissan to make the car driveable. Nissan said that when the vehicle was brought in, it was in protective mode, meaning it would not drive over 25mph. That is the EXACT same problem I had when I originally brought the vehicle to Aamco. Nissan also stated that it was possible that the ABS light could be related to the transmission repairs because the computers for each component do communicate with each other. I have also been informed by other mechanics that it is quite possible the transmission problem was misdiagnosed and the problem all along was the ABS system. A CVT warning light was never present and the manager at Aamco jumped to the comclusion that it was the transmission without lookng at anything else on the vehicle. Even after taking the transmission apart, the part that he thought was bad and had replaced did not fix the problem. Several other parts were replaced on the transmission and the problem was still not fixed. The entire transmission was rebuilt, and the car still did not drive properly. It was not unitl the entire ABS controller was replaced by Nissan did the car drive normally. The original manager when I first brought the vehicle AAmco was terminated from the company shortly after I was given my car back a week after droping it off and was told by him that it was fixed. When it was not fixed and I was having the same exact problem and called Aamco back, the new manager himself admitted that the prior manager made mistakes with my vehicle and even called him an it. I truly beleive, and have another mechanic's opinion to corroborate, that my vehicle was misdiagnosed. I beleive that Aamco did everything they could to cover up that fact. If Aamco specializes in transmissions as they claim they do, why on earth would it take them over 4 weeks to try to repair, and then ultimately decide they have to rebuild my transmission? An expert should have been able to immediately diagnose the problem. The fact that they had to call in outside specialists to help them even further discredits their supposed expertise. As a single mon with a child, I was incredibly inconvenienced for 6 weeks without my car. While Aamco did eventually agree to pay for a rental car for me, even that was a hassle. I beleive that the current manager (or the manager that was there in January when my car was finally fixed) did what he could to try and fix the problems caused by his predecessor. While I cannot prove the ABS problems were related to the transmission because nobody other than Aamco will really know what was done to the tansmission and the vaious computers on the vehicle, they cannot prove that they were not related since rebuilding the transmission did not fix the problem. Aamco was not able to provide me with any kind of notes on what repairs and testing was done on the vehicle. It could be an unfortunate coincidence, but I sincerely doubt that. The only people who had driven or had access to my vehicle for an entire month were solely Aacmo employees. Their incompetence and desperation to finally be rid of my vehicle (as mentioned to me MANY times by the manager)lead me to beleive that the timing was not coincidental. While I never expected to get any kind of reimbursement because Aamco will never admit that they completely mishandled repairs to my vehicle, I want others who may be thinking of taking their vehicle to Aamco, DO NOT DO IT! This has been the most miserable experience of my life and this has dragged on for 8 months! They have been an absolute nightmare to deal with. This is the most unprofessional and incompetant company I have ever dealt with.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 14, 2014/07/05) */
As evidenced by the customer's response, she never had any intention of working with us to resolve this issue. When the customer discovered that her vehicle had been brought to the dealership for repairs, she could have refused their estimate, retrieved the vehicle and had it repaired at another facility of her choosing. Instead, she had the vehicle repaired at the dealership, and then demanded a refund from us for an issue that she was only able to connect to the original repairs based on the word of "other mechanics" or the dealership who originally charged her for the ABS repairs; in both cases, neither source of information could definitively state her ABS problem was related to the transmission. Her intention seems to be an attempt to malign our name, and the name of other AAMCO franchises throughout the Chicagoland Area and the nation. We have many satisfied customers who are completely happy with their AAMCO experience. In the rare instances where a customer is not happy, we are more than willing to work with him/her, in good faith, to come to an agreeable resolution.
Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 16, 2014/07/07) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I did try to work with Aamco when the ABS light came on and the vehicle was taken to the Nissan dealership. I explained to the manager at Aamco that I felt I should not be responsible for the ABS repair costs because the problem occured while in their possession and there was nothing I could have done to cause that problem since I did not have the car and had not had it for the previous 4 weeks. The only people to drive my vehicle were their employees. Aamco was very adamant in stating the the full repair costs to Nissan were solely my responsibility. After they refused to compromise at all, I figured it was better to go through more official channels. I am happy to send Aamco the 3rd party opinion that I received from another local mechanic stating the strong possibility of the ABS problem being connected to the original problem I had with my vehicle. In regards to retreiving the vehicle from the dealership to have repairs done elsewhere, I was told by Aamco and by Nissan that the vehicle was not driveable and that severe damage could be done to the vehicle the more it is driven in protective mode. Given the state of the vehicle, I thought it best to not take a chance driving it to other mechanics to get other estimates. The safety of me and my daughter was more important. I would also like to make it clear that I have never demanded anything from Aamco. I think I was more than patient while they had my car for over 4 weeks. If they asked to keep it to do further testing, I said ok. If they asked to replace other parts, I said ok. If they asked to keep it longer so they could have specialists look at it,I said ok. Because the CVT was under Aamco warranty and I believed that they wanted to make things right, I kept the vehicle with them for repairs much longer than most people probably would have. I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I only asked two things of Aamco...to be given a rental car and to be kept updated on the progress of the repairs. While I understand what happened with my vehicle may be unusual and that normally it would not take over a month to repair a CVT, that does not change the facts of what occurred. The ABS light came on while in their care, while only their employees had access to the car, and I had not driven it for over 4 weeks. As I have stated before, while the chances of the ABS light going on could be coincidental, I find the timing of it all very hard to beleive. Even after Aamco spent 2 or 3 days trying to figure out why the ABS light was on, they could not. So, while I can't say for sure it was related to the CVT repairs, their own diagnostic testing did not prove that it wasn't.

My transmission went out on my van, and I had it towed to Aamco transmissions because it's the only transmission shop I could think of at the time. The gentleman was locking the door when we showed up, he said would take a look at it and give me a call the next day. I received the call the next day and he said I need a transfer case and a transmission and the cost was going to be $7500, the only discount he could give me was a $250 discount if I went right away to [redacted] reviews and a gave him a good review and five stars. This was going to be with used parts and no diagnosis of why my parts went bad in the first place. I had my oil change the day prior to this and they checked all my fluids and they were all full, the transmission holds about twelve quarts and not a drop was in my driveway. I called the [redacted] dealership and they said they can get brand new factory parts and labor at [redacted] for $5500. Aamco insists I continued my business with them and would now give me a price of $5000. I've tried to pick up the vehicle and called to pick up the vehicle several times and they say they want $4850 in CASH, DOLLAR BILLS!! Won't except debit or credit cards even with there sticker on the window... Now I sit home alone without a vehicle, disabled and not able to make needed doctor appointments or anything else. Now Aamco wants $5000 plus $6000 in late fees at $65 a day ! Some please help !
