Any issues with the [redacted] roof is due to the massive ice dams from this winter. Only one skylight leaked and only during the peak of ice dams in February. It is obvious in the photos I submitted that the front edge of the skylight is slightly bent from ice or someone trying to lift the skylight.

This property owner is being dishonest about his complaint. He is correct that we installed 5 skylights with his new roof installation. He states in his complaint that all five skylights leak and can be lifted from the outside and you can put your arm into the house. A couple of his existing...

skylights had been leaking prior to the new roof. We always advise the property owner to kill stains with bin Primer or they will think the skylights still leak. They never did this and called me on more than one occasion about a single leaking skylight. finally, in November 2014 I sent a foreman who has been with me for 28 years to the [redacted] home with another worker. They removed all the roofing shingles from around this alleged leaking skylight, reset it and reinstalled new shingles. I [redacted], owner of AB Carnes Roofing never witnessed any leaking on my visits, just prior stains. Since that November visit I had not heard from the [redacted]'s again about any leaking until the third week of February 2015. If you remember we had historic snow fall and ice dams like we have never seen before. The [redacted]'s daughter called me on a Sunday and reported leaking in a few locations. I explained that we don't perform snow and ice because of safety reasons and there was not much we could do. I advised that they call their insurance carrier and report this damage. They would pay to repair interior damage and any damage to the roof. On May 26, 2015 Mrs. [redacted] called and asked what I was going to do about the leaks they had over the winter. I explained that the leaks were due to the massive ice dams and not because of shoddy workmanship. I asked Mrs. [redacted] to call me if and when she sees a leak. She replied angrily "what if it doesn't rain for six months."I reiterated that she call me if she sees leaking and I would make an immediate appearance to view the leaking. I explained further that if you do not see leaking from rain them my assessment about ice dam damage is correct. She was was very argumentative and would not listen that I was trying to help her troubleshoot her issues. The next time I heard from anyone was when [redacted] one of the [redacted] building inspectors called me in late June about a complaint from the [redacted]'s stating you could lift the skylights up from the roof and see in the house. I told the inspector this was impossible because they are anchored to the roof and covered with ice and water barrier and shingles. I also indicated I only heard from the [redacted]'s in late February when the ice dams hit their peak. During this period of time I was receiving 50 calls a day for ice and snow removal which we do not do. On July 6, 2015 my foreman met with Inspector [redacted] at the [redacted]'s residence and viewed some damaged ceilings from ice dams. It is admitted that they had leaking during this historic winter. However, the inspector witnessed that the skylights were not as the [redacted]'s stated but firmly secured to the roof. In fact, we photographed them and were able to show the Inspector that the roof was properly installed and the skylights were properly flashed. Flashing is used to shed the water down the roof, With these massive ice dams water was actually traveling up the roof behind the flashing because it could not escape. In summary, the [redacted]'s are trying to hand the damage from this historic winter on me by making me totally false accusations about really exists. One final not, the contract has a legal provision that: All parties agree in advance that any and all disputes relating to this contract shall be settled by binding arbitration. They are breaching the contract by trying to settle a dispute through the Revdex.com. The [redacted]'s have a a 900.00 basketball hoop set up which is on the street and permanently secured to the ground. he claimed we hit it and would not pay me until we put in a insurance claim. I paid 100.00 out of pocket for the professional estimate to replace it. When [redacted] received his check which included 100.00 he never gave me back my 100.00. I sked him for it and he said no .

I have reviewed the response submitted by the business and have determined that the response does not satisfy or resolve my issues and/or concerns in reference to complaint # [redacted]. Please add your rejection comments below.

This complaint   is based on fact..1. Each of the five skylights  can be lifted   to the point a note book can be passed into the house.  We contacted [redacted] they said the instructions say use screws provided to secure skylights 2 .When water flows into a house plaster, framing. and  a possible  electrical hazard are what occurred we shut down the electricity. Our home did not have ice dams throught  2 years,we contacted  carnes in janurary  2015   the huge  snows,we not on the roof.

Revdex.com:
We are senior citizens who contracted A.B Carnes to strip old shingles and replace worn plywood and ice and water shield. Carnes insisted we have all 5 skylights replaced or he would not do the job. We agreed thinking his judgement was important. The job was completed Oct 15, 2013, we paid him a premium price and expected quality work, cost was $15049.31. In a matter of weeks, Nov 2013, 4 out of 5 skylights were leaking. We called Carnes and he dismissed our problem, “skylights cannot be leaking,” We complained again in 2014, we put kiltz and ceiling paint on 3 times in 2014. In Oct we had a large leak in kitchen and main bath, we called Carnes to come over and see a week later he called back and with much reservation he came over and viewed the skylights. He opened up kitchen skylight and found a lot of water throughout area. [redacted] took phone pictures and sent them to Carnes, he viewed them saying “someone is going to get fired.” [redacted] and helper worked on the damage and said it was fixed. We had [redacted] come in and seal and paint water stains in 5 rooms in early Nov. Again leaking occurred, we called Carnes a few times before he returned our call, it was [redacted] who called the end of Dec and continued into Jan. [redacted] had surgery Jan 7, he called back and said “it’s” ice dams call your insurance co.” and hung up. We did not have any ice dams at that time. Let it be known Carnes became one who tries to intimidate us, we made every effort to be calm but it continued. June 2015 we had a licensed contractor inspect the roof and skylights, each skylight could be lifted open from bottom, we have pictures to show a notebook put through to the outside. The contractor was stunned at the workmanship. Our original skylights were framed in and could not be moved. We called [redacted], they give instructions and provide screws to be installed, they said a skylight should not be lifted open. Next we called the building inspector in [redacted] Mass. He made an appointment to come to our home and when he did [redacted] got on the roof and showed 4 of the 5 skylights were lifted open. This whole complaint could have been resolved if Carnes accepted responsibility and honor 5 his year warranty regarding our basketball backboard and pole system on our grass in the median. The 1st day the roofer arrived to begin the work, the truck backed up and hit the basketball backboard with a ladder on top of the truck. [redacted] and [redacted] and [redacted] all saw it happen. [redacted] ran to the truck yelling stop-stop. Carnes said he would have the driver take it from his ([redacted]) insurance. I called Go gon Figure he company that handled the loss-they said our company does not charge $100-to evaluate a loss. Therefore we did not owe Carnes any money. Go gon Figure [redacted]. I paid for the roof in full never making the accident a condition of payment
