Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/07/01) */
The dress that Mrs. [redacted] is discussing in her complaint is not hers, it is her mother's. On June 5th Mrs. [redacted] came to the cleaners with her mother. Her mother had tried on the dress and we had pinned it to the length that her mother...

had wanted and approved of. Mrs. [redacted] picked up the dress on June 9th and came back to the cleaners on June 15th and complained about the lining of the dress. She first said that the lining of the dress was too short. We explained that unless the customer specifically requests something different we keep the original proportions of the dress. The dress in its original state, without any alterations, has a shorter lining so if the dress is hemmed the lining will be hemmed according to the original proportions of the dress. However, we informed her that we could fix the lining and make it as long as she wanted it to be. However Mrs. [redacted] then complained that the outer length of the dress was too short. By this point we were confused since her original complaint was only about the lining and then once we informed her that it was fixable she complained about the outer length. Therefore, we asked her to come back with her mother since the dress was pinned and hemmed to her mother's height and liking. We even informed her that we could bring the employee that altered the dress to come and see the dress. Mrs. [redacted] said that her mother was in North Carolina and could not come. She stated that it was our fault that her mother could not wear the dress anymore and that we had messed up on the alterations. In conclusion, she wanted money for the dress. There is not much we can do if her mother is not there to show us what we did wrong in the alterations. The dress was pinned when her mother was wearing it and to the length that her mother had wanted. Even though the dress was charged under Mrs. [redacted]'s account, she was not the one wearing the dress when pinning. Also, we would like to point out that Mrs. [redacted] was present when her mother tried on the dress and we pinned the dress. Even after explaining all of this to Mrs. [redacted], she kept requesting for us to pay her money for the dress. This is not our fault so there was nothing more we could do at that point.
After hearing about Mrs. [redacted]'s complaint from the employees at the cleaners, I talked to the employee that had altered the dress. The employee that altered the dress, remembered the dress and confirmed that it was the length that the customer requested. So when Mrs. [redacted] came to the cleaners on June 16th, there was nothing I could do besides tell her what we had already informed her the day before.

Hi [redacted], you brought in a blazer for hemming sleeves on 4/30/2015. Your jacket's sleeves had vents and real button holes so it could...

not be hemmed from the bottom because it would look ugly if we were going to hem it that way. We suggested to hem the top sleeves (or Original hem), and you questioned us if that would change the look of the jacket. We ensured you that the bottom parts would look the same. We measured your sleeves and we pinned it at 1.75 inches.
We took the sleeves off and measured the top sleeves to see if hemming the top sleeves would narrow your jackets. After measuring, your jacket top sleeves would be narrow if it was hemmed more than 2 inches. Your jacket needed to be hemmed only 1.75" so it would not narrow your sleeves. If your jacket was narrowed at 1.75", we would have let you know that it would narrow your jacket and additional work would be needed to be done. There would be an additional $10 (combo price) to tapper your shoulders in order to hem the top sleeves. The price for tapering the shoulders alone is $40. But it was not the case.
We called you on 6/4/2015 at around 9:15AM because it was over 30 days and you did not come to pick it up. You came to our store on 6/8/2015 and told us it did not feel right (you meant tight and the appearance of the jacket) when you were trying on your jacket. We took it back and told you we would fix it because we ASSUMED something was done wrong. We could not say anything else when we did not re-inspect our work. When there was a complaint, we could only assume that was our fault first, no matter what. We even asked for the receipt of the jacket in case we really made a mistake. You told us you did not have the receipt, and you could show us the price on the website. We also go shopping and we know prices in local stores (on sale items) may be a lot lower than the prices shown on their website. Especially, Banana Republic had very low prices with their final sale promotion, but we could not return when purchasing final sale items.
We had a team of 3 tailors re-inspect your jacket and we saw that there was NO tapering work done on your jacket because the original threads from the manufacture were still there. If we accidentally tapper your shoulders or sleeves, you could clearly see the original threads were replaced if something else.
You came on 8/21/2015 at 12:30PM to pick up the jacket and refused to pay and wanted the reimbursement of $200 (without receipt). We ensured you that there was nothing wrong with your jacket. You wanted it to look exactly 100% as original. Even though it says original hem, it will not look 100% the same as the manufacture. We are doing original hem because we want to keep the original look of some parts. It does not mean we can keep all the original threads and material exactly as the manufacture. For instance, original hem (or front hem) on jeans will not look 100% the same as the way the manufacture had but it is called original hem. For your jacket, our main point was to keep the original look of your bottom sleeves after shortening it.
You told us that you would take it back unpaid and had other tailor re-hem it. So, we wanted to make sure that you had the other tailor re-hem it. We would take the sleeves off and you would bring it to another tailor and had him sew them back on. That was easy since you did not like our work. You disagreed. Later, we changed our mind because we had the right to demand payment so we did not take your sleeves apart. You were threatening us to put negative reviews on Yelps, on Revdex.com and small claim court if we were not going to reimburse $200 for you (without receipt). You have the right to do so, and we have the right to prove. You also have the right to say foul language to us as you already did. If you can prove there is a tailor in the city can do original hem that it will look exactly 100% as the manufacture, we will reimburse the jacket at the price on the original receipt.
