ABC Cooling & Heating Service, Inc. Reviews (6)

We had ABC replace our air conditioner, heater, hot water heater, install ducts and add insulationThey did a whole house energy audit for us and we received the highest rebate available from PG&EAll members of the company were very professional at all times, were punctual, responsive, and provided the highest customer serviceI recommend ABC to those looking for a quality company

I had an older air conditioning system with a drain pan in the attic and a galvanized drain lineAround the end of September 2013, the drain line for the system became clogged, and as the pan had no float switch or other mechanism to turn off the AC unit when the pan became too full, I ended up with an emergency situation - specifically, water was overflowing from the clogged drain pan onto the ceiling and down the wall innear the water heater closet in my kitchenr
I called ABC Cooling & Heating in *** ** based on an *** *** recommendationThis was, unfortunately a mistake - what is most frustrtating is that I did not realize that I had been taken advantage of until years later (Summer 2016), when I was renting a home that had the same type of system, and encountered the same type of problem
When ABC's representative came to my home to "fix" the issue - he told me that he would not be able to snake out the line because it was a galvanized pipe that would just develop issues again in the future, causing them to have to go back and fix itHe told me that the only option that he could offer was to put me in touch with someone at his company that could get me a newer Air Conditioning and/or Heating unit
Being a new homeowner, and perhaps too trusting - I bought his story - and a new Air Conditioning/HVAC system from ABC Plumbing (over 10K installed)
Silly me - I even thought I got good service - Until the drain line in the house I was renting a few years later in Orlando, FL got clogged
First - the air conditioning system in Orlando had a float switch - a simple mechanism that prevents the AC from running (and creating more water) once the drain pan gets too fullThese can be retrofitted to an existing Air Conditioning systemThe hardware costs around $10, and even if the labor was at $It would have been a much more cost effective option to resolve my immediate crisis and to mitigate my risks moving forward
The ABC representative that was in my house in September 2013, who I can only assume, being a qualified HVAC technician, knew that this was a solution that was available, decided to withold that piece of information from me
Second - The handyman that was sent to take care of the clog in the drainpan of the attic in Orlando told me that clogs like this happened all the time, but it's really easy to fixJust siphon or wetvac some of the water from the pan, and then take a little tank of compressed air to blow out the lineWorks about every time, and very economical, as the customer is only charged a minimal amount for his time and effort
As mentioned above - the technician the ABC Heating and Cooling in *** ** told me that he wouldn't be able to clear the line as the problem was likely to reoccur
To recap - while a comprehensive solution that would have both fixed the immediate problem and prevented the reoccurence of the issue was available for the cost of about $- $210, I was mislead to believe that my only option was an order of magntude larger investment in a new HVAC system
I understand that I do have a new HVAC unit, and I even contracted with them for an additional job sealing my attic voluntarily, but I have to say that I would not have considered any of them had I known that a much less expensive option was available It is unfortunate when a vendor employs staff that prey on the ignorance of its customers and leverages emergencies to inflate their comission or bottom line
This is exactly the type of vendor and contractor that I would recommend avoiding
I don't know what kind of recourse is available to me, as I did not think it would have been necessary to have a video or audio recording of what was relayed to me by a recommended vendor from a website that I was paying for in order to find reliable resources, but I want to make as many other Fresnans as possible aware of how I was taken advantage of by an dishonest and unscrupulous HVAC Technician sent to my home by ABC Cooling and Heating Service

*** from ABC Cooling & Heating came out on a weekend to service my home heating unit He was prompt in arriving on time as scheduled, very professional in reviewing my unit, diagnosing the problem, and offering the best solution for me, very reasonably price charged for the exceptional work he performed*** detected severe dangers with the original insulation of my heating unit, had he not reported his finding, disaster could have occurred at any momentWill always call him for all my future heating and cooling maintenance and repair needs Thank You !!!!

Another clean and professional service done with informative tips on energy conservation.

Early June, 2016, we were having 100degree weather, and my AC was not cooling the like usual therefore I contacted Allbritten here in Clovis/Fresno for service (first time using this company). I was told service charge would be $59, I was content with that price. Technician (nice guy) arrived on time driving an ABC cooling & heating vehicle. Meet tech showed him the unit in the back yard, within a minute he diagnosed the problem using his pen. He spun the fan blade and stated, "here's your problem, you need a new motor". Because the fan didn't spin freely. I accept the reasoning as somewhat valid. He then stated to offer me a price around $600, at this time I was a little naive to the AC world. Therefore I accepted his expertise opinion ( what other choice did I have?) He then started give me options for a discount rate on the part, if I paid for a service contract for $169, I could get the part for only $433 (around). I agreed consider I needed yearly service anyways. Tech replaced the motor, AC was turned on to see the proformance of new motor, the outside unit did something I have not seen it do before. The fan would run, freeze, run, freeze while making this clicking noise, all within a few seconds. Tech then shut of AC unit. Looked at unit and concluded there must be a refrigant leak somewhere. But for a $100 and something more, he could do the advanced diagnosic search, now I starting to think something is up. But what other choice did I have, at the time my AC was now not working at all. I already agreed to pay for a motor that made my unit unusable, so I reluctantly agree. Well after around 30 minutes in the attic ( not sure if he was up there playing games on his phone, to stall for time) he now informed me my AC coil was leaking and need to be replaced, but he could get me a quote. During this time he went to his vehicle and back up in the attic and contacted his office. I used this time to attempt to quickly educate myself about AC, coils and prices on my phone. Longer story short I was $777, in the hole and was told I could replace coil for $2600 or they can have someone quote me a new system the following day, since I'm running R-22, I thought a new AC/heating unit maybe be my best option since I have a unfunctionible AC, and the 100 plus degree is near. Tech went back to unit did some wiring and left. Next day Allbritten arrives looks at the work from yesterday, told me, looks like tech had to "rig the unit to turn on, that's what they do when the units on there last leg". The end, quoted $11200 for replacement unit for basic carrier produce. That price included $500 credit back from the motor I had installed the previous day. Now I'm at there mercy because I'm invested monetarily in this company, because I'm stuck with a motor I can no longer use once I get a new system. I felt like I was being played from the start to purchase a new system. I don't know company practices but I trusted this company solely based on their commercial ads. Just writing this for future customers out there, be warned. FYI, I got quoted a better system with carrier for way less the what they offered. But I'm still out for the motor and the service contract, don't think I'll have them touch the AC again.

[redacted] fom ABC is knowledgeable of his work. He explained to me what he did. He's punctual and courteous. I am a technician myself. Keep up the good work [redacted]!!!!
