Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this.  Below is our rebuttal. As stated previously this program is a maintenance program and as such items found to be out of factory specification are recommended for replacement.  Our pricing is inline with industry standards and are based on a flat rate pricing system.  While I am sorry that after a year of the service being performed the customer has decided he is not satisfied. I am happy the system has performed well since the maintenance.  I feel that a request for a refund is unreasonable.  I will extend an offer for a 50% discount on a future service call.

We had our first encounter with Absolute Zero Air in 2009. They came and fixed our unit when it had stopped working in the middle of the night. The technician was courteous, professional and advised my wife ( I was at work) of everything he was doing with the unit. Had it up and running and for what I thought was a fair price. In 2010 after the nasty hail storm in October our house received a pounding as did our A/C. It was not working so again we called Absolute Zero, [redacted] the owner came out and did the service and we agreed to a new unit. For the next couple of years after the new unit was installed they were great, they always called and scheduled the bi annual services. Then it all stopped, we called to have the maintenance service scheduled and were told we had to buy an annual service plan for a coupled hundred dollars and that didn't include anything other than the visit, why buy it? Then we heard from some friends that they were charged nearly $700 for a service call and that the tech did the work before letting our friends know what was wrong so they felt cornered into paying and were charged nearly 40 times over the cost of the parts. We felt maybe this was an isolated issue and continued to trust them. I referred them to a coworker and heard that they did the same thing to him after discussing our recent encounter. Now the most recent 2 weeks ago, my mother in laws house. The unit stopped working and wife called Absolute Zero (mother in law was out of town). She met them at her house and the technician went to work for a couple of hours. Then he returned with a $462 bill. I arrived and he said he put 1 pound of Freon in and replaced a run capacitor. None of this work was authorized before hand and we were cornered into paying. We were charged $299 for a run a capacitor, I checked around at a few stores including Sears and found the same part and brand ranging in price from $9.99 to $16.99. This part can be purchased by anyone. I called another AC company and asked what they charged to replace the same part. They told me $50 for the part installed and $80 for the service call. I have been in contact with [redacted], the owner of Absolute Zero. He is unwilling to even address the unethical sales/service practices of his techs so I am left to assume he condones and even encourages this method of performing work before discussing it with customers. Next are his fees which he claims are reasonable and all inclusive. Even lied about the amount and type of work involved in replacing the run cap. Now he wont return any emails after asking me what I want him to do about this issue. I will no longer use Absolute Zero Air as well as refer them to anyone. Hence my review.

It appears from blurry aerial photos there is a condenser on the roof of the building and upon further review of the AC literature I overlooked where it says it connects to one.  You are still however price gouging and charging over 10x average retail price for a capacitor and your tech was at my place for maybe 10 minutes.  I don’t know if your guy even did anything because I’ve never had any issues with my air conditioner whatsoever.  The most expensive AC capacitor I found doing a quick search online is $42.60.  A majority of them are under $20.  I’ll pay you the retail price for the most expensive one plus the service fee of $29.95.  $42.60 + $29.95 is $72.55.  I’ll pay you that amount but I want a refund of $265.40 because your prices are unreasonable and nothing needed to be fixed in the first place.

Mr. H[redacted] is mistaken in that the model number he supplied in his complaint requires a condensing unit for cooling.  The condensing unit is the heart of the system,...

containing the compressor, motor(s) and components.  The condensers are typically located on the roof, which after reviewing aerial photos, appears to be the case at Mr. H[redacted]'s home, The intent of the [redacted] preseason service is to entice home owners to have their HVAC serviced so it operates in the most efficient manner possible during the high electrical peak summer usage.  The goal of the preventative service is to identify operation issues, alert the customer, get authorization and perform repairs needed.  This is preventative  service to help ensure the system operates efficiently, while avoiding the potential of catastrophic failure due to deferred maintenance.
The request for a refund is unreasonable.

Highly recommended! Our a.c. stopped working last night. We called this place at 9:00 a.m., they were at our house by 10:30, and fixed our a.c. and were out the door by 11:00 a.m. [redacted] and [redacted] were better than prompt, quick, very clear with what the problems were right away, and friendly. I was thinking that we'd have to wait a day or two to get someone to come to our house, that they would be ambiguous with what the problem was, try too hard to sell us on something we didn't need, and thought the cost could have been extremely high. I was pleasantly surprised. I hope I don't have to get my a.c. worked on anytime soon. But I know for sure that I will call Absolute Zero next time I do. Thank you!
