I have a 2 part complaint. This apartment has a sneaky and unethical lease practice. They have a form where the guarantee party "the parents" sign the first year of the lease that apparently allows our college kids to be the only signer for all future leases. Meaning I the parent that is paying the monthly rent doesn't even have to sign the lease that I am responsible for. How is this legal?

In addition I can't seem to get a copy of this form. My account no longer is accessible on their website and my daughters account does not include this form. I requested it from them and have not received it. I attached the lease from last year and this year and you will see that only see signed this years lease. I did not sign it.

My second complaint is that they increased the rent by 25% from $800 to $995, how is this allowed during a pandemic and at a time when all rents are lower in the area. The CA Attorney Generals Website states that any business that provides rental housing cannot price gouge more than 10%. This apartment is gouging 25% for an apartment my daughter hasn't been in since the pandemic and will not need due to the pandemic.

They never return calls, I emailed 3 times and it took them 5 weeks to give me an answer that basically said sorry your daughter signed the lease so you have to not only keep an apartment we don't need but to pay 25% more.
