While looking over my credit report well over a year ago I noticed that this agency reported a collections against me when I was a minor. I immediately called the agency and was told that I could not be given any information in regards to the collections account because I didn't have a proper docket number. A month ago I decided to again request a credit report and saw that the collections account had been updated and closed by one credit bureau. I once again called and was finally given information in regards to the collections account. I was told that it was a court fee from when I was a minor and when I asked why I had never been notified of it being in collections I was told that every thirty days a letter is sent to my home address informing me of my ongoing collections. I calmly explained to the woman I was speaking with that I had never received such a letter and she proceeded to ask me my home address, which I gave and was rudely told that no one would ever believe that I had never received a letter when they have the correct address. I at this point was told I was speaking with the manager and asked why it was closed on one credit bureau's report and she told me it was still open and that it must be a mistake. I then asked when it was opened and was first told 2010, but when I said that I was sixteen at that point she switched to saying it was opened in 2011 when I was seventeen years old. The "manager" then proceeded to tell me that my mother had called a while back and told them that she would pay the debt and I told them that my mother had never called them and the reasoning would be that I never even told her about the collections account on my credit report. The manager of this agency was rude, arrogant and a liar. I want to know why they reported this debt that I attained at sixteen to the credit bureau's a year later when I was seventeen years old, I want to know why I was never notified of it being in collections and also why i'm assumed legally responsible for a legal matter that I was not legally responsible for. I've already spoken with a lawyer and was told that I should file a complaint and dispute this with all three credit bureau's because as he said "minors are not legally able to enter into binding contracts!" I was never even notified by the court house, but that's easily explained by the fact that again I was a minor and all court proceedings and legal fees were directed to my mother because i'll repeat myself, I WAS A MINOR and she was my guardian. It's almost a joke that the credit bureau's would allow these people to report against a seventeen year old.
