Complaint Activity Report Case# ***
A review was written by ** *** accusing Access To Independence that we took
advantage of him because he is disabled
I have been working in the field for more than (30) thirty yearsI have always be an
advocate for people with disabilities and would never take advantage of anyone
Mr*** came in to our showroom on December 14, 2015, requesting battery
replacement for his power wheelchairSince the wheelchair was not purchased from our company, he was told this would be a cash sale onlyIf he needed the items to be billed to his insurance, he would need to go to the original provider of his equipmentHe said he was in a hurry, and just needed the partsThe price on the odd size batteries and a part he wanted replaced would cost $He agreed to the price and gave us a
deposit to order the batteries and part of $When his items arrived he was called to schedule the installation of the part and batteriesWhen the work was completed he paid the remainder of the bill of $
He has the right to file his own claim with his insurance carrier and if they would pay, he would be entitled to that reimbursement amountMr*** did file a claimHis
insurance carrier sent us his check in error instead of him directlyAnthem also called Mr*** and told him this was done in error, the check should of gone to him
Unfortunately Anthem made the check to the order of Access To IndependenceThe check amount was for $So we had to deposit the check into our account and
immediately wrote Mr*** a check for the exact amount his insurance company sent us in error again, $Mr*** feels that since his insurance company, Anthem, only reimbursed him this amount we owe him the difference between this and the cash amount he paidI called him and spoke with his wife, who said he could not come to the phoneI told her this was established as a cash sale and what Anthem has as an allowable does not have any bearing on the cash saleShe seemed confused so, I emailed Mr*** that day giving him the same information
The cash sale was agreed upon and we sent him the reimbursement Anthem paid
The account is settled
Respectfully,

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2016/04/04) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
First of all, I'm not accusing them of taking advantage of me because I am disabledI'm sure they take advantage of all their customersMrP*** seems a bit confusedI am not complaining about my Anthem reimbursementMy complaint is about their overcharges and persistent misstatementsThis is their third story
I did purchase the power chair from another companyThat doesn't matterI was ordering replacement batteries which are covered by both of my insurance carriersI was told I would have to pay cash, because they would not deal with the insurance company since they had been burned in the pastI was not in a hurry; my only request was the invoice was dated prior to year-end for insurance purposesThe batteries are not an odd size and they are an in-stock item at the manufacturerI paid cash, since I was given no choiceI didn't agree to pay more for batteries than the insurance company would payI have received Anthem's paymentTheir story appears to have changedTheir previous email they stated I had to pay cash because I didn't have a prescription, now they're saying it's because I didn't buy the chair from themWhen MrP*** contacted my wife, she said I couldn't come to the phoneI can't talkHad he dealt with me, he would know thisThe lies just continue to mountIs anyone looking at this logically? Why would a cash sale be higher? Why would getting your money up front rather than wait for reimbursement be higher?
