wires to check for possible loose connection, everything looked normal, we then looked for any service bulletins online, & looked at wiring harness diagrams online to see if there was a common item that would shut them both off? We found a relay that would affect both circuits, checked the relay it checked fine but it was the only component that would effect both items, unless we had a wiring problem that we couldn't see, because you can't see the whole wiring harness without taking ALOT of things apart which would cost hundreds of dollars. Wiring is easy to check when it's creating a problem all the time. Any intermittent problem is hard to find, if your looking for something not working while it's working your not going to see anything not working. Intermittent are always hard to diagnose it's always better if the components don't work at all. So at this time I didn't see anything wrong with the vehicle, and we had already spent more than the initial hour of diagnostic that we had charged for, so I called the customer, talked to the son, the person that is driving the car, and asked if he wanted us to continue taking the dash apart to try to find a wiring problem (that would cost hundreds), or if he wanted to TRY the relay that COULD be the problem for about $50.00? He opted to do the $50.00 repair. AT NO TIME did I guarantee the relay would fix his problem, it was his decision to try it and see rather than spending a lot of money on an older car which I understand. So the question is did I guarantee the relay to fix it or not? I did not. And the good thing about living in todays high tech world is my security system records everything that I say at my front desk so I can back up everything I say to customers. I will also note the son seemed to understand what I had explained to him about the intermittent problem, and had actually dropped of the car so we could check it some more, but his mother who I had not talked to at all was the one insisting I work for free.l
