Accurate Driveline & Machine Reviews (1)

I went over to Accurate Driveline on Monday March to see about having a driveshaft made for my project car: an Evo converted Mitsubishi Mirage The owner was out when we dropped off the car and we had to have the trailer we borrowed returned with the next hour so we left the car in their lot after talking to the receptionist and went to return the trailer After dropping the trailer off Dad and I returned to Accurate Driveline to see the car already on the lift We went inside to discuss the details of getting the driveshaft made to find out that it was a Metric setup and we would need to source some conversion parts to run American driveshaft components Finding out this info I asked if there was a charge for shop time to which he responded no charge He said he was about to go to lunch but asked if we could bring by one of the original yokes from the factory driveshaft to take a look at in 30min when he was done eating and we said that that was fine since we lived close by his shop After grabbing some lunch ourselves we returned to his shop with the yoke which he said was unusable, so since we couldn't do anything else that day we loaded the car back onto the trailer and as we were getting ready to leave, the secretary came out and said she had some paperwork she needed me to fill out Turns out they wanted $for 30min shop time I wasn't pleased that he had changed his mind about charging me, but I did appreciate the help in figuring out what needed to be done to get a driveshaft in the car so I paid the $without complaint and we loaded the car back on the trailer and went home so I could start looking for the needed conversion parts to bring him When we got home I went to pop the trunk of the car and it wouldn't open That's strange, I thought Then when I walked around to the back of the car I noticed several small dents and one large dent with badly cracked paint (There was no bumper on the car at the time as it's in the paint shop currently) I sent an email with pictures attached over to them asking how they had loaded the car on the lift and waited till the next morning to see if they would respond Here is the email:
Hey, how did you guys get my Mirage up on the lift today? When I got home I noticed that the rear end was dented in a few spots (one spot being pretty big) and the paint was chipped We also couldn't get the trunk lid open initially, though we managed to get that part fixed Attached some pics of the damage
No response I decided the next course of action would be to call over and see what had happened The first call I made at 11:02AM on 3/31/and here is basically how the call went (I didn't record it so I'm paraphrasing)
Me: Hi, I'm the guy who brought the Silver Mirage in for a driveshaft yesterday How did you guys get my car up onto the lift?
When I got it home I noticed that the rear end had been crushed in a few spots Did you see the email I sent?
***: Yeah, I'm looking it over right nowWe pushed it onto the lift by hand so I don't think it would've happened here
Me: Well, I'm positive it wasn't damaged when I brought it over, but I'll double check and call you back
Patterson: Ok
Now, my car's build is very well documented and followed online; so I have quite a few pictures of it that I take every time we do something new to the car I had taken a video on March 22nd only a few days before the incident that clearly showed no damage to the vehicle and the car hadn't moved at all since the engine was out to be built Realizing that it must have been them that had damaged the car I called back over The second call was made at 11:on 3/31/and here again is a paraphrased record:
Me: I double checked as the build on the car is very well documented online and it wasn't damaged when I brought it over today
Did you talk to your guys in the shop?
***: I did We have a small garden tractor with a bumper on it that we use occasionally to push cars onto the lift and they used that It's because the car didn't have a bumper on it that the damage happened I'm sorry it happened, but that
was all we could do
Me: If the car had had the bumper installed it would have been worse The bumper cover and crash beam are very thin on this car and it would have for sure damaged the bumper; so I'm glad I didn't have the bumper on the car!
***: Well, the car had no engine so what did you expect us to do?
Me: You should have waited and called me We had a come-a-long with us that we used to load the car on the trailer and we
could have just used that to get it onto the lift
***: Well, the bumper will cover that once it's installed right?
Me: It will, and I can probably fix the damage myself; but I'm still not happy that it happened That section will have to be popped
back out and painted again***: Well, what exactly do you want me to do about it?
Me: Well, at the very least I'd appreciate my $back
***: Look, I don't want any part of your driveshaft build That car is a piece of crap as far as I'm concerned
I'm not giving you your $back (hung up on me at this point)
I get that some shops don't like imports, and that's fine He should have just told me that when we first got there with the car and we would've just gone somewhere else Now I'm out $for essentially no work done and I have a damaged car that would cost well over $to repair if I took it to a body shop I was very professional on the phone and there was no swearing or even raised voices in either call or anything like that in the conversations; so that sort of treatment is completely uncalled for We have used Accurate Driveline in the past and been very happy with their work and I was excited to have them build the driveshaft for my race car but man talk about being shot down Neither Dad or I will be going back to have work done there again
