[redacted] Please See Attached Documents [redacted] November 3, 2015RevDex.com Attn: [redacted] PO Box 1000 DuPont,WA 98327RE: ID # [redacted] Leak DetectionOn 9.29.15, I arrived at [redacted] to perform a leak detection because of a high water bill.I... performed a meter test finding a water loss of 0.449 Gal/Minute. I explained to [redacted] that on this size of a system the high water bill was not caused from this small of a leak. He told me that they had some problems with toilets in the main church that they had repaired. I performed an electronic leak detection on all accessible main line valves, backflow and toilets not hearing any leak sound. I asked [redacted] if he had any idea how the PVC main lines were run from the backflow to the pastor's home and main building for the church. He said he had no idea. There were a total of 4 shut off valves that isolated the main lines. By isolating the valves we were able to determine which line shut off each building. We isolated the leak between a valve at the backflow that heads north and a shut off valve that isolated the pastor's home. I did not hear any leak noise on the valve near the backflow or the shut off to the house.I explained to [redacted] that by not knowing the exact path of the water line it makes it difficult to locate the leak. With the ball valve heading north and the shut off to the building about 40 feet straight ahead we both agreed that the PVC line was running in a straight line under the tree in the grass area. Again, I had no way to confirm this because we were unable to trace the pipe. Many times on jobs such as this there have been many people that have done repairs and there is never a written record or drawing showing where lines have been installed.I induced a traceable inert gas into the line through the backflow. I heard leak noise in the area of the tree and the tree roots. I did not hear any leak noise near the backflow. With all the roots exposed I suggested that they could trench a line across the grass between the tree and backflow. The line could be found, cut and rerouted around the tree and reconnect to the line that feeds the pastor's house.Finding a leak is not an exact science. This is explained on the back of the invoice under terms and conditions of which I am enclosing a copy. I called [redacted] twice prior to them excavating the area of the leak and they had not started yet. I contact every customer that I have ever performed a detection for to assure the leak was found and where it was located. If they trenched across the lawn and did not find the water line, Accurate Leak Detection should have been called so I could have had a chance to return at no charge to the customer to locate the leak. I understand I missed the leak; however I was also not given the chance to locate it because they decided to keep digging in or around the backf low and shut off. I was called by [redacted] and he informed me that the water line was not where we thought it was. He said that when they exposed the valve in the area of the backf low they located another tee feeding a line that I believe was going to the well for the irrigation and the leak was on this tee. I had no way to confirm this because I was not there.I'm not disputing I missed the leak, but again, it is not an exact science. I was unable to perform another detection to pin point the leak because I was not called and the decision was made to keep digging. When [redacted] did call me to say they found a leak he asked me to lower my invoice to $150. At this point I told him I would reduce the invoice which was $425 by $125 making the total $250 for the detection plus $50 for the inert gas that was used. I believe this to be a fair and amicable solution and [redacted] said anything would help because they had to rent the trencher and the pipe wasn't there.Rick B***, Owner Accurate Leak Detection, LLC [redacted]
