Professional, great work, on time. I will call them again

They are the Best! Always on time and top quality work! I have used them several times and really am very happy with their work. I can call and depend they will schedule immediately and Ruth is always cheerful!

I had a small area of wood rot on the exterior of my home that was in need of repair. I quickly surmised that this job was too small for local siding repair companies. I am so glad to have been given the name of Handyman Matters, Upon receiving my call they were eager to help and even gave me an estimate (which turned out to be very accurate) based on photos I had taken. The finished product looks great! I am so glad to have found Handyman Matters and would not hesitate to ask for their help in the future.

Handy Matters did a great job for a relative out of state. They kept you informed of when they are going to be there, when they are done. This is a great company when you need a small job done. Definitely would recommend Handy Matters to anyone

I used Handyman Matters for the second time recently. Chris was great, as before. I asked for a deadbolt lock I could open from the outside to be installed on my front door. He encountered an unexpected problem with this installation, but he was prepared for it and everything went great! I had a couple of other miscellaneous jobs as well, and he finished them up quickly. I will definitely call Handyman Matters again when I need them!

We have hired Handyman Matters numerous times for various work around our house and have been very pleased. Friendly and professional staff at every level.

I had a great experience with Handyman Matters. Saulo was on time, fast and very professional. I would absolutely work with them again in the future and would recommend them to others in my area.

Professional, on-time and friendly service! I've used Handyman Matters for projects in my own house and referred them to clients and they never disappoint!

I would refer them to anyone for doing great work!

Fantastic service. Educated handymen who I felt confident in their work. Responded quickly and appointment right on time. Great work and will be having them back for my next repair.

Someone from this company came out to give me an estimate for work on my deck. I was told I would receive the estimate in a day or two. I had to inquire several times about my estimate as I never received it. I was then asked to send my email address, even though I had given it to the person who came by to look at the work that was needed, but provided it and never received the estimate in email or a follow up phone call.

We appreciate the feedback. It is apparent we failed in our communication with this potential customer. We did have a bit of trouble getting this potential customer's free estimate to her. We entered her email address incorrectly the first time, we emailed her a 2nd time on 10/18/17, and again today upon reading this.

Recurring leaking master bathroom shower due to poor repair service.
We used Handyman matter to fix our leaking bathroom in October 2016. The bathroom started to leak again in March 2017. We contacted Handyman matter to fix the problem since it was still under warranty and they asked us to pay them $5000, according to them it was a new problem. We brought other two pluming companies to find out what is really going on and we found out that the handyman matter did a poor job when they fix the leak. The new leak was caused by a nail put on the membrane about 2 inches above the floor. According to the standard, you shouldn't nail the membrane below a foot or 12 inches. I tried to contact them regarding the issue but they kept on saying they didn't do anything wrong. I sent them pictures showing the nail and all the rust around it but, no solution from them.
Hope you will help me with the issue.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Desired Outcome

To fix the problem caused by them costed us $4000. I want a reimbursement for the additional cost I incurred.

Our customer entered into a contract with us, HMM 10/21/16 to "demo existing shower pan, install new shower pan, install tile, install new liner, install new drain, remove & replace existing shower door, caulk & seal all joints. Repair damaged sheet rock".
Prior to entering into the contract stated above, our craftsmen and estimator discussed replacing the shower pan and all the tile in our customer's shower to solve her bathroom issue. Our customer chose to hire and contract us to replace only the shower pan and removing the minimal amount of tile necessary for installing the pan.
Our customer contacted us on 3/2017 stating that there was a leak below the shower that we had worked on in 10/2016. Our craftsmen meet with our customer on numerous occasions to determine where the 3/2017 leak was coming from. Prior to removing any tile, a pressure test was done on the shower pan that showed no leak. Our customer, her realtor, and her husband were present during those tests. We regrouted all the areas are the tiles that we had originally replaced, and the leak persisted. At this point, to determine where the leak was coming from, we removed the tile that we installed as well as tile above our repair. Upon doing that, we noted that the backer behind the tile was crumbling and wet showing the water was getting in from approx. 20" and going down behind the liner that we had installed. Our customer was showed this as well.
Our customer mentions nails in the membrane that we installed. We are not denying that we needed to affix the membrane below the standard 12", as we did not remove tile from above 12", thus no way to affix liner at that level.
At this point, the only solution to solve our customer's shower leak would be to replace shower pan and all the tile. We did give our customer pricing for this.

Customer Response

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
customerI completely disagree with what the Handyman Matter says.
1. They never recommended to take the whole shower down and do it again, and they never gave us an estimate to show us how much it would cost us if we do it. How do we say no or decline their recommendation without knowing how much it would cost us? They do not have any documentation showing that.

First of all, after taking the tiles on the floor and some tiles around the shower wall out and changing the shower pan/ membrane, he said the old shower pan was in a good shape, but he changed it anyway since he took all the tiles out. The reality is that he never took the old membrane out, he left it there and put the new one on top of it.

According to him, the problem was with shower tray (where we keep our shampoo and conditioner), which had never been sealed by the builders. He sealed that and did other stuff according to the agreement and they said they found the problem (the unsealed shower tray) and it is resolved.

2. Now after having another leak, they come and say they recommended to take the whole shower down to identify the real issue. How about the unsealed shower tray? Wasn't it the real issue? When they did the testing with water- they filled the pan till a certain height, it was not leaking, but the more water they put on it started leaking - the leak is coming now from the side of the wall where they made whole on the shower pan linear. He nailed the linear about 2 inches above the ground, whereas the standard is at least 12 inches above the ground.

3. My question is- if the handyman or the business knew what they were doing would not resolve the underlying problem and we, the customer did not take their suggestion/ recommendation, why did they agree to do the work? Knowing that the customer is not an expert in the subject matter and making a wrong choice, why did they take the business??? The bottom line is they never bothered to explain anything to us but now they come and say you declined our suggestion, when they are asked on what base we declined their suggestion without even knowing the cost- they don't have answer for that. It is just an excuse for their incompetence and not to be responsible for the damage they caused.

4. We brought two other companies to identify the problem, they both said the issue is with the nailed membrane which is very close to the floor. (Attached is the picture to show you what I am talking about)

Per our contract with this customer, the next step in rectifying disputes is to go thru a mediation process. Our attorney will be reaching out to her to get this process started.

Customer Response

This is in regard to case# XXXXXXXX. I am reopening the case as I was told by one of your customer complaint department employees. It is to inform you that Handyman matters and I are reached to an agreement to settle the case.

Handyman matters has agreed to refund me the original service contract fee for an amount of $2,900 through its attorney. The attorney has requested me for some documents and was provided and now she is keeping the check in her custody till I get her a proof of claim withdrawal from Revdex.com. The company and I are resolved our disagreements so please let the company know that the case is closed in a satisfactory manner. In other words, this is to request a proof of claim withdrawal from Revdex.com.

If you have any questions or need any kind of documentation from me, please let me know.

Thank you so much for your help,
Issue already resolved, am requesting for a proof showing that the case is closed.
