Revdex.com:
I would like my complaint ID ***, to be handled through an Arbitration hearing with Revdex.com However, could it please be scheduled after July 20th due to business and I will be out of townRegards,
*** ***

I called Ace Hi Plumbing because I had an emergency situation with our sump pump that had stopped working After calling Ace Hi, they came to house within hours to not only replace the sump pump but also inform me of what was causing our sump pump to stop working This piece of information was crucial, because we had several issues with our sump pump in the past, but no one could tell us why our sump pump would stop working and ultimately cause the basement to floodAll of the employees, but especially the owner Rick, were a pleasure to work with They were knowledgable and friendly I would highly recommend Ace Hi Plumbing to anyone!

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
We reject their offer based on the following:
In response to the statement that implied that the husband was ill due to carbon monoxide poisoning, if this were true, I would have been ill as well.  In fact, my husband’s condition is due to long term insomnia.
Some of the work they did was not up to code.  Please see the attached email. The email is by [redacted] who did come and inspect the work by Ace-Hi.  Please note that Ace-Hi’s contact with Mr. [redacted] came after receiving our complaint to the Revdex.com.  In the email, Mr. [redacted] states what work was not up to code and which code should have been followed.  It was not the code that Ace-Hi sent to the Revdex.com to justify their work.  I find this highly disconcerting as they were not honest in their response to our complaint.
In response to saying that we would deal with it was in regard to their wanting to install a new furnace.  We at no time said we did not want them to remove their work.  In fact, we had asked them to come out and remove their work but we received further no contact in that regard.
In regard to the statement that they did no damage to the tile, please refer to Mr. [redacted]’s email and the photos previously sent.  I am also attaching two more photos to show the damage to the chimney tile that was done during installation of their venting.
Please view the two attached photos.  If you will look below their venting that is
where Ace-Hi chiseled out part of the chimney.  In doing so, they breached the tile lining weakening the complete flue structure.  After their work we could no longer return the chimney tiles to their original state, thereby forcing us to have the tile lining removed and new venting installed.
As Ace-Hi has stated they consulted with [redacted] on the phone regarding the work they completed.  Jared had contacted Mr. [redacted] after we requested they remove their venting.  Upon visiting our home to see their work, Mr. [redacted] informed us that the work was not up to code and not necessary.
Recently we contacted Mr. [redacted] again to confirm things about our claim.  He informed us that Rick D[redacted], owner of Ace-Hi, had recently emailed him.  Attached are both Rick D[redacted]’s email and Mr. [redacted]’s response that Mr. [redacted] forwarded to us.
The attached email shows Mr. [redacted] does not agree with their assessment of their work.  Mr. [redacted] did see their work and upon seeing it refutes Ace-Hi’s contention that what they did was correct and needed.
Regarding their statement that we called another contractor to critique their work, is ridiculous.  We contacted the contractor to get another bid for a new furnace.   He did not sell us anything.  While taking measurements to vent the furnace outside as it could no longer be vented through the chimney due to the work ace-Hi did, he simply thought that the work wasn’t necessary.  He did research on the Loveland Building code and told us the same thing that Mr. [redacted] later did, that our chimney was up to code before Ace-Hi did their work.
We have concerns about Ace-Hi worrying about having other contractors or the Inspector coming to look at their work.  It confirms what we believe that they were not completely honest in their dealing with us.  If their work was up to code, they need not worry about anyone else in the business viewing it.
We have been disappointed, not only in their work, but also their business practices.  They have not been honest as demonstrated by the email between them and Mr. [redacted].  They sold us work based on incorrect information claiming that three parts per million was a dangerous carbon monoxide level.  Because of their lack of knowledge of the Loveland Building Code, their work was not only unnecessary, but created a situation that was potentially dangerous for us.  Therefore, we had to spend another $1632 to have their work removed in order to create a safe living situation.  We are seeking the full amount of $3032 which has been a cost that was completely unnecessary.
Regards,
[redacted]

Our recent repair experience with Ace High Plumbing was completely positive. They responded to our need to repair a leaking drain pipe within one day. The technician was professional in conduct and knowledge. He worked efficiently and effectively and kept our bill within reason. The best part, no more leak.

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because it doesn’t address all of the relevant and important points of our complaint.
1)    They did not address the three parts per million as not a dangerous level of carbon monoxide. 2)    They did not address that some of their work was not up to code. 3)    They did not address their damage to our clay tile lining which created the dangerous possibility of the tile lining collapsing into our chimney once they installed the smaller diameter liner. 4)    They did not address using a building code which is not in use by the City of Loveland. We don’t contest that we signed a contract and agreed to the work, but it was based on what they told us that the levels of carbon monoxide were dangerous to our health. We did request that they remove the lining.  We were told they would get back to us, however, they never did regarding that issue.  They did call us in the fall and asked if we still wanted them to replace our furnace.  At that time, we told them not to worry about the furnace. The errors in their work and lack of understanding about Loveland Building codes led us to a situation that created more work and expense beyond the simple installation of a water heater which they were initially asked to do.
Attached are three documents.  The first is the initial contract and payment of $600.  The second is the payment for $800.  The third is the estimate and payment made to the Chimney Sweep.
Regards,
[redacted]

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because: some further clarity is required as not all of the information in their response is correct.
Initially, I purchased a water heater from [redacted] with the understanding that it would be installed the same day.  [redacted] sent Ace-Hi Plumbing to install the water heater.  After the installation we were told by them that there was a dangerous amount of carbon monoxide being emitted from the water heater into the house.  The installer told us that the reading was over 20 parts per million for carbon monoxide.  He did another reading in our presence and the amount was 3 parts per million which he said was still a dangerous level.  At that time he turned off the water heater and its gas line.  We were told that our chimney would need a liner so the water heater could vent properly.  Ace-Hi would return the following Tuesday to install the liner.  We were told that the venting would work for both the water heater and our existing furnace.
When Ace-Hi returned on Tuesday, they tried to install the new liner.  They encountered difficulties and were unable to install the liner.  They told us they would have to use a smaller diameter lining that would fit in the chimney since the first one did not.  They returned Wednesday and installed the correct sized liner.  At that time I wrote a check for $200 to cover the cost of the unusable liner.  But the new lining would not accommodate the water heater and the furnace where before their work, both vented into the chimney.  Due to the changes made at that point, we were unable to vent the furnace through the chimney and would have to have it vented out the side of the house.  All of this required more expense on our part due to simply wanting our water heater replaced.
We contacted another contractor to get a second bid on the job.  He inspected the area and the work and said that we did not need to have the liner installed and that if it were removed he could revent the furnace and water heater so they could be vented through the chimney.  He also pointed out that some of the work was not up to code.  [redacted] contacted Rick at Ace-Hi Plumbing and told him that we wanted their work removed as the work had been unnecessary. Rick did not wish to discuss it and referred [redacted] to Jared.  [redacted] told Jared that we were informed that their work was unnecessary and some was not up to code and [redacted] asked him to remove it.  Jared said he would investigate and get back to us.  Jared called back later and said he had spoken via the phone with [redacted], the City of Loveland Building Inspector and Mr. [redacted] confirmed to him the work they did was correct.  However, Mr. [redacted] had not seen their work.  I then called Mr. [redacted] and made an appointment with him to see their work.  When he came to our house he noted that there were areas where the work was not up to code. The way the venting was configured to connect the water heater to the new liner was not up to code because one section was parallel with the floor.  By code it needed to be sloped upward. He looked outside the house and stated that the height that the liner extended upward from the roof was not up to code and dangerous as it was too tall and not supported by guy lines. He concluded that due to the age of the house, and the code applicable to our house, their work was unnecessary beyond the installation of the water heater.
We did receive a call from Rick that fall inquiring when we were wanting to complete the job (install a new furnace and venting).  It did not involve any offer of their work to remove the liner.  At no time did they ever offer to remove their work.
In order to correct the situation, we had a licensed chimney sweep come and inspect the work.  He stated that the ceramic tile had been damaged by the work Ace-Hi did.  They did not use a saw to cut into the brick and tile, but hammered and chiseled the brick, thereby damaging the inner tile lining.  Because the tile had been damaged there was the danger of it collapsing into the chimney, therefore, it had to be removed.  The chimney sweep removed the chimney tile and put in a new liner at a cost of $1400.   It then cost us an additional $232 to have another contractor come and hook up the liner to the water heater and the furnace.
In regard to the code that was sent by Ace-Hi Plumbing in response to this complaint, I contacted [redacted] again this week.  He said Ace-Hi used the 2015 code to back their work. He stated that the City of Loveland did not adopt the code of 2015 and is currently using the code for 2012.  Under the adopted 2012 code the work was unnecessary.
We are seeking the amount we spent to for Ace-Hi's work which came to $1400.  Due to their unawareness of the applicable code, the building code for installation procedures and the damage they caused to our chimney clay lining we are also seeking the $1400 it cost us to have their work removed and a new liner installed, plus the $232 for the hookup of the water heater and furnace.  We feel that we relied on their knowledge, experience and professionalism to our detriment.
I am attaching the two photos of the work that was not up to code: the liner without the appropriate slope and the liner that extends off the top of the roof without guy lines.  The next photo shows a crack in the tile lining of the chimney, caused by their hammering into the chimney.  The last shows their work and the furnace vent that could no longer be vented through the chimney.
Regards,
[redacted]

1) 3 parts per million was just at the water heater.  There were no carbon monoxide detectors in the home and the husband was not well.
2) Everything we did for the venting was to code.  We never heard from the inspector of it not being to code.   Another contractor came in and gave his opinion of what was code.  The [redacted]'s said they were going to deal with it.
3)There is no proof that Ace Hi caused damage to the tile in the chimney.  This is an old home and the tiles could have been damaged before Ace Hi ran any venting.
4) We did contact the inspector.  They said what we did was to code.  It was not until the [redacted]'s called another contractor that came in to critique our work and sell a job.  Then the inspector came out after the fact.    Since the inspector did not come out when we called we followed the code book.  Which you have a copy.
5) Ace Hi will refund $600 back to the [redacted]'s for the work performed.

We have received the complaint notice concerning the job at [redacted] .  I am attaching the contract showing what work was done after the water heater was installed.
As far as we can recall this is what happened.  The homeowner purchased a water heater and after...

it was installed it was spilling carbon monoxide into the home due to it being vented through the chimney.  We left the water heater off over the weekend due to obtaining the parts and scheduling the work .  After the venting through the chimney was completed there was no carbon monoxide coming from the water heater.  The furnace needed to be replaced to something 92 % or better so this venting could be separate from the water heater.  The homeowner agreed to wait until fall to have the work done.  We contacted the homeowner in Sept and Oct and they said they said we did not need to be concerned about it.  Meanwhile, they had contacted another contractor and they stated that what we did was unnecessary.  Note the attachment per code book . We did offer to remove the liner at that time and [redacted] (husband) said "no I will deal with it".  We do have one thing confirmed.  What we did in June did fix the carbon monoxide problem.  The work was completed and satisfactory.  We charged $1200 for the parts and labor.
The homeowner did call later in the fall and asked for the liner to be removed.  We declined because what we did resolved the carbon monoxide spilling.  We have spent alot of time researching the right thing to do per code.  This is what the best option at the time to get hot water to the homeowner as soon as possible.
The chimney was not drafting correctly.  This is why we did not want them using the chimney.    In our code book 2015 International Fuel Gas Code this is not code anymore.  It needed to be done.
