referenced complaint.  As Mr. [redacted] advised, he brought his vehicle for an inspection.  The noise from his vehicle was terrible.  It failed the emission inspection.  Mr. [redacted] was advised that the proper repair for his vehicle was to replace the Y-Pipe converter at a cost of aprox. $1,000 and that we were unable to pass it.  Mr. [redacted] advised that he could not afford the repair.   We offered to replace the catalytic converter at a charge of $306 on one side of the exhaust system to see if it would pass the emissions inspection, but that he would eventually need the other side repaired, if it passed inspection. But that there were no guarantees that it would pass without repair to both sides.    After the repair, we had Mr. [redacted] drive the vehicle in order to reset the monitors through a drive cycle in order to re-inspect.   As Mr. [redacted] was driving in order to reset the computers in preparation for the emissions test, the catalytic converter on the other side blew out, due to a restriction in the exhaust on that side.     At no time was the wrong size converter put on his vehicle and at no time did anyone from our shop confirm that was the case.   We did not void a safety inspection, as the state mandated system will not allow that.    We are not willing to pay the full repair costs of over $1,000, as Mr. [redacted] was told this may not solve the problem and was aware that he needed the converters on both sides.  But if it passes a re-inspection, we are willing to pay for the inspection.   Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.    Sincerely,     Mr. [redacted] President Dennis Enterprises, Inc. dba:  Ace Tire & Auto Service [redacted] St Charles, MO  63303 [redacted]@sbcgobal.net
