I bought a tow dolly from Acme Tow Dolly based on features such as weight, disc brakes and welded constructionIt looked nice when it arrived in CaliforniaI stored it in the back yard for months until I needed it for our vacationI used my pickup to tow it about miles to confirm proper setup and see how it handledWhen I connected it to our RV and plugged in the lights the right side didn't workI turned on the headlights and when I returned to the dolly smoke was pouring out of the square tube where the wire are routedThe blade for the right side lights on the round to flat connector got hot enough to melt into the plastic
I took the tire off so I could inspect the wiring to the back of the lights and found that the wires were pinched between the frame and brake caliper, crushing them and exposing bare both the running and brake light wires and pressing them against the frameI sent pictures to Richard and he did offer to send a wiring harnessI seriously doubt that he will actually send it
He didn't seem to care that my RV is now in the shop because the right side trailer wires don't work anymoreThe shop called and said that the plug is damaged and electricity won't pass through itIt probably melted inside like the adapter didThe right side trailer lights on my pickup also no longer workThe electronic adapter that plugs into the factory wiring burned outWhat a coincidence
What inspired me to write a review is the lack of customer service from the ownerHe was downright rude and insulting and tried to blame everyone else for the defect including the trucking company and meHe said he didn't know what happened to it over the last (actually 3) monthsThis is BRAND NEW from his factory, yet he won't accept responsibility and throws insults at customers through his emails
Only usage and time will tell whether the dolly is a piece of junk or notThe quality control is obviously lacking, at least in the wiringBut the main reason I would advise everyone to avoid doing business with them is the owner's attitude and trying to pass the blame to others instead of his manufacturing crewI paid extra for a year warrantyBased on this experience with an obvious factory defect, I think that was probably a total waste of moneyHe also continuously advertises upgrades for online orders of paint blemished unitsThis is a total scam used for marketing purposesThe owner is unethical in his advertising and business practicesBeware that they operate under different names including: Acme Tow Dolly, Car Tow Dolly and Diesel Gas TrailerI would not recommend them to anyone
