Acme Trailer Works, Inc. Reviews (1)

Review: In September 2012 my boat trailer was severely damaged while out of state. While still out of state it was poorly repaired, and I was able to get it back home. Upon arrival, I took the boat trailer to Acme Trailer Works, and asked if the trailer could be cost effectively repaired/restored and painted so it would pass inspection for structural integrity. Acme Trailer Works advised me that the trailer could be completely repaired/restored in a cost effective manner. Based on that, I approved the work to be performed. When the trailer was complete, I paid $1,843.00 for the work. The trailer was later inspected by a third party who pointed out several deficiencies in the welding and painting performed by Acme Trailer. The trailer was taken back to Acme Trailer Works and they did complete the painting, They would not, however, do any more welding on the trailer because, in their words, it was not worth putting any more money, time, or effort into. Instead, they told me to buy a new trailer. I feel I should have been told that my trailer was damaged beyond repair before I paid Acme Trailer Works $1,843.00 for repairing the trailer the first time.Desired Settlement: A refund for $1,843.00 for work performed on a trailer that, in there own words, was not worth repairing.

I am rejecting this response because:

The trailer had been previously welded prior to me bringing it to Acme. The reason I brought the trailer to Acme was because the previous welds were poor and I wanted their opinion if the trailer could be saved, or was beyond repair. Acme stated that the trailer could be repaired and brought back to roadworthy condition. I hired Acme to repair the trailer and to paint it. This included undoing the previous welding errors, which did compromise the integrity of the trailer, and re-weld them correctly. When I dropped the trailer off it had only been poorly painted with primer. In paragraph 2 of Acme's response, it was stated that the reason Acme would not remove the previous welds was because it would damage the paint and would have to be repainted. I contend that it was Acme's mistake to paint the trailer in the first place before it was properly repaired. After Acme had refused to repair the trailer, I hired another welder who properly welded the trailer and repainted it for an additional cost of $300.00.

I would also like to know what repairs Acme performed that they believed had nothing to do with the accident. They weren't at the accident scene. They would not know what was damaged in the accident and what wasn't. I brought a damaged and poorly welded trailer to Acme and hired them to repair it.

Finally, Acme stated in their response that after I returned the trailer to them to weld areas that they missed the first time, that they did some additional welding and painted the areas of the trailer that were missed. This is untrue. When the trailer was returned to Acme, specific areas were pointed out to them that needed additional welding. None of these areas were touched. When I asked why, [redacted], told me that the trailer was not worth it, and to get a new trailer. The trailer was painted only in areas on the bottom side that were missed the first time. Perhaps while painting it the first time, they didn't think I'd notice unpainted areas underneath.

Although I feel it was unfair to have been told that my trailer was not worth repairing after I had already spent $1,843.00, I will accept $300 from Acme as reimbursement for my costs to have the trailer repaired properly after leaving their shop. Thank you for your consideration.

Regards,
