*** *** was accepted into Fisher College for the start of the 2014-academic year. The student applied for and received a financial aid package for that year which consisted of Fisher College institutional grants, as well as various Federal Department of Education grants and
loans. As a component of the Federal grants and loan process, the school is required to collect and verify certain data from the student and/or student’s parent prior to the aid being credited to the student’s account; typically, this process is completed in advance of the start of the school year. In this case, however, certain information required to complete the Federal aid process was not provided timely by the student and/or parent. Accordingly, upon the student’s chefor the beginning of classes, Fisher requested the student “sign off” on a formal (standardized) document acknowledging the aid process was incomplete, and failure to provide the requested documents could jeopardize the student’s financial aid package. This document additionally states the student acknowledges that any balance due to the school due to failure to comply with the financial aid document request becomes the full responsibility of the student. In fact, the school has the signed copy of this acknowledgement in its files. As the student and/or parent subsequently failed to provide the documentation in a timely manner, a key component of the Federal aid package initially approved for the student (a Federal Parent Plus loan) expired prior to our ability to disburse it to the student account. We attempted to work with the student and/or parent to rectify this situation, but to no avail, as a re-application of the Parent Plus loan was later denied. Unfortunately, this denial left the student short of the funds required to satisfy the outstanding balance on the student’s accountDespite additional attempts to resolve this situation, the outstanding balance was referred to a collection agency when it became clear our efforts at resolution were unsuccessful. The account remains in collection at this time. No succeeding attempts have been made by either the student or the parent to recommence dialogue pertaining to the outstanding balance due for tuition, fees, and room and board for academic year 2014-2015.Please contact *** ***, Director of Accounting to work out a Payment Plan.In addition please see the attached documents, which includes a copy of the award letter *** received and a statement that she signed during check in listing the missing documents that were required Tell us why here
