Hello,

I have been out of town doing shows & just received your letter.  This is an unfortunate situation.  2  gentleman came shopping @ our booth which was a partial walk in.  One was pushing a stroller.  They were looking @ some raw, natural stones in the back of the booth.  They purchased a piece of stone & started to leave.  The gentleman in question pushed the stroller towards the outside of the booth near a table that ran sideways, then turned back in & walked about 4 feet back into the corner of the booth to look at some raw, natural opal rocks.  I was speaking with man #2 who was actually the buyer but had apparently brought his friend who knew more about rocks with him.  As we were discussing the opal a load crash occurred & we all turned to see a whole table of jewelry on the pavement.  There was broken stones & beads off broken jewelry everywhere.  We all started picking it up after he moved the stroller outside the booth.  Interesting leaving the baby unattended 4+ feet away again outside the booth in the street.  He was apologizing profusely as all 3 of us were on our hands & knees picking up pieces. I was in shock never having anything like this ever happening @ over  1,000 shows & events.  He picked up a piece of green stone & showed it to me asking if it was turquoise.  I said yes & immediately knew what it came from.  I had 3 large necklaces made of it on the ground along with 3 lg. coral necklaces, a 3 tier bracelet display that had over 50 bracelets on it & 6 other assorted genuine stone necklaces.  His friend at that time handed me a hand full of broken pieces & the gentleman handed me a few more.  There was still a lot under the table.  Rocks shatter, there was (which the police found later) a lot that had bounced out into the road. He kept saying he was sorry as I was looking at the turquoise necklaces first as they are the most expensive when I found the piece that  he had picked up went.  Let me explain that these necklaces had 7-9 sliced, polished stones about the size of a quarter or larger all the way around the necklace with the largest being in the lower center position as the focal point.  They where evenly matched in size to its corresponding piece in the same position on the other side of the necklace.  The customer states that a chip the size of her pinky nail broke off.  Must be a really large pinky nail.  All that was left of the stone was about a 1/4 inch outside strip of the whole stone.  Being dazed as I was I didn't say anything but oh my god.  He offered WITHOUT my asking anything to pay for it.  He said quote " it was my fault & I will pay for it, all I have is about $100.00 how much is it?"  It was a necklace & earring set at $159.99.  I thanked him and said I would take the $100.   He kept saying he was sorry.  They left.  I cleaned up the mess and did an inventory.  The 3 tiered display for the bracelets is broken & unfixable, 6 bracelets, 2 larger coral necklaces one being large slices of branches the other being hand carved into leaves.  Total loss for us is well over $500.00.  He told me after he gave me the $100. that he was a stay @ home dad & things were tight.  My husband is 100% disabled since 2005 and things are tight.  He apologized again & left.  About an hour or so later a large built woman came up to our booth SCREAMING we robbed her and stole her money & wanted it back.  She said she would never wear a necklace like that.  I didn't notice her wearing any jewelry. But every one has different taste, what 1 person loves another hates.  All attention turned to out booth during [redacted].  100's of people heard her and she would not relent.  She kept calling us thieves and said quote " if we had broke something in [redacted], they don't make you pay for it!"  I would bet if you broke something of value like a tv you would be paying for it!  She was very load & out of control.  I went for the police.  They made her back away from the booth & told her to quiet down.  Her husband threatened to hit my husband & to mop the floor with him.  The police said she was no longer welcome anywhere @ [redacted] & she was not permitted to attend any part of the event & she had better leave immediately or else.  We could have pressed charges but we did not.  The man { her husband } came back 5 mins. later saying his wife sent him back because the price tag on the necklace said $159.99 for the set & she wanted the rest of the set.  The earrings were attached to the necklace & must have went flying & were never found but I gave him the matching turquoise earring to another set similar to the one they had.  I did not feel I was obligated to do that as he didn't pay full price but I gave them to him anyway.  After he left all the people around including the policemen said I was right in my actions & it was great to see someone stand up.  The police warned us to be careful & to watch out for her & if we had anymore problems with them not to hesitate to call.  I have pictures to enforce my side of this.  The vendor next to us actually recorded video with sound on her smart phone in case we needed it.  I am not happy about all the lose we sustained & am standing firm.  If she persists with this we will counter sue for total damages.
