This Dentist lied in regards to accepting my insurance carrier subsequently costing me approx. $4,000I was told by this office that they accepted my insurance carrier; however, they failed to inform me that they are out of network. As such, I received a bill of approx. $4,000 for services rendered. When I confronted them, the Dentist offered mt a $200 discount in an attempt to apologize for the mistake made (obviously acknowledging their mistake) and asking that we continue to use them as a providerDesired SettlementI want any money that was paid which was over the proper amount that my co-pay should have been returned in full.Business Response We value our patients and do our very best to communicate clearly and precisely all the information we can provide from their insurance carrier that their carrier will provide to us on their behalf. We are not in network with any insurance companies but we do accept most insurances and will file for benefits as a courtesy for our patients. The patient was given and signed two separate documents stating we are not in network with any insurance company. The Financial Policy the patient signed before ever being seated in the dental chair clearly states we are not in network with any insurance provider. In addition, we always provide a written estimate of insurance benefits before beginning treatment which is based upon information provided by the patient's insurance company. This patient received a written estimate and signed it. There is a large, bold area at the bottom of the treatment plan estimate just above the area for the patient's signature which clearly states, "The Estimate of Insurance Coverage is NOT a Guarantee that your insurance company will pay the claim, or a portion thereof. We are not an 'in network provider' with any insurance company and all information we provide you is based solely on information they have given us at the time of verification. You are responsible for all charges and any additional charges that become necessary during the course of treatment." The insurance estimate given to this patient was based on the information given to us by his insurance company at our request in preparation for his appointment by both telephone and fax. The dental insurance contract is between the patient, the employer providing the benefit and the insurance company. We are not a party to any part of that but do our best to assist the patient in maximizing all available benefits. The patient's total bill for all of his work totaled $3391 of which he paid $2527.66. The Dentist gave him a $200 discount when he complained about the insurance lack of payment in February, not as an admission of any form of guilt, but as a gesture of good will and good faith. The Dentist then also wrote off $265.26 of this patient's balance in May as a further effort to help him for a total discount of $465.26. We wanted to show our patient that we did indeed care and we heard him. We have treatment notes indicating the patient was not only satisfied but praised his experience and the high quality dental care he received in our office. Patient also stated the initial query and concern about our practice being out of network was initiated by another party and was not influenced by the high quality dental care from which he benefitted.
