Bait and switch of service/ mislead and told wrong information
on 6/4/2019 I was seeking a rehab facility for my son. I called Addiction Campus (AC) after finding them on a website. I spoke w/ *** who found a center for my son. On 6/5/2019 we finished up our plan of action. He took my ins. info. then called me back to tell me -" good news, your deductible is $500 & you will be getting $20k in treatment" He directed me to go to the facility that was 461 miles away & was going to get everything set up for our arrival.

I drove 4 hours to *** treatment center & eventually, my son was admitted.

2 days later, 6/7/2019, I rec'd a call from the facility to tell me my ins. was not going to pay & my son would be discharged. I called AC to find out what was going on. They were going to have the supervisor look into it & call me back.

After an hour or so, I called back to AC since I hadn't heard anything. I spoke w/ *** She told me she knew of the situation & ***, the supervisor was working on it. She also told me " not to worry, what ever price I was quoted, was the amount I would have to pay" She stated they would not stick me with a large bill.

A little bit later I rec'd a phone call from Bo from AC. He told me there was nothing they can do, the rehab center would either discharge my son or I had to self pay. I was panicked. I just drove my son 461 miles, 2 days ago & was now being told he couldn't stay.

I asked to speak w/ *** & was told she was in a meeting. I demanded she call me back. After not hearing from her, I tried to call back only to find I had been blocked from calling the center. I later used my husbands phone to call. *** told me they verified my ins. or they wouldn't have sent me there.

After I got off the phone with her I contacted my ins. to find that AC did check with them on Wed. but did not do any authorization until Friday. The facility I was sent to what out of the 250 mile radius my ins. allows. I would have never been approved, yet AC sent me to the facility. I tried to get the insurance to cover it by appealing, but had no luck as the facility was out of network.

I called back a different number to AC & spoke with ***. At 10PM that night he called me back. He had done some checking & told me the best he could do is keep my son into the next week but I had to pay $2500 by Monday. which I did not have. He assured me that my son was safe until Monday. This gave me time to try & make a plan.

Saturday morning 6/8 I started with phone calls again. I was pleading with anyone I could find to work with me on this situation. I knew if my son was discharged, he would NOT go back to rehab. I was told there was a facility that he could go to & *** point would pay to bus him there on Monday.

I didn't want to move my son to be transferred as I really liked the facility. I tried to talk to anyone I could but with it being a weekend, no one was in.

At 2pm on Saturday I get a phone call telling my son was being discharged & being put on a bus home. I told them *** from AC told me he would be fine until Monday! The girl told me- NO ONE told you that & he is being discharged.

Frantic, I called AC back only to find I was blocked AGAIN from calling them.

I called from my husbands phone once again and they would not work with me. My son had no home and I had a facility lined up for him on Monday. They told me "we" had refused treatment, therefore they were releasing him.

I had to drive the 461 miles, over 900 there & back once again to get my son.

Addiction campus mislead me. They are a crisis center that promised the world & I trusted them. They tried to tell me it is up to facility to verify insurance, but when it came down to it, AC is supposed to do this. *** from AC told me there was a mistake made.

They had my son for 2 days & I had to pay $2500 or they were discharging him.

This felt like extortion. Bait & switch. My son is back on the street.

Desired Outcome

I did ask for all medical records be sent to me and I am worried they are going to try and charge me. My emails/ calls are not returned. I don't understand how they can do this to people and do not want this practice to continue.

Unfortunately due to federal and local privacy laws, we cannot comment on specific patient care nor actions taken to resolve the issue. As noted above, federal privacy laws prevent us from identifying or discussing the patient's care. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes the Revdex.com in conducting the necessary service they provide our community to ensure the highest standard and quality of local entities, but we are bound by the guidelines put forth in federal law, and rightly so. Customer Response • Oct 17, 2019

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
This answer skates around the entire problem. You can't tell someone their insurance has accepted the treatment plan, have a person drive 4 hours one way, drop off someone, treat them for 2 days and then claim it is not covered.
The insurance company did NOT receive the information until my son was in the treatment center for 2 days. This is not a privacy matter. This is FLAT out, Turning Point / Addiction Campus did NOT do their job properly. This is AC telling someone the wrong information and not taking any responsibility. The only thing AC would do is block my calls. How unprofessional to treat someone this way when it was AC's mistake, not MINE.

Don't give a 'blanket' response of ' its a privacy matter' I am not discussing treatment. I am discussing the unprofessional way this was handled. I am stating AC lied on many occasions and then would block my phone calls when I was trying to find out what was going on. AC lied about insurance benefits, which was the real issue.
