I spoke to to the owner of Adelita’s Restaurant, Mari O, in November about having my daughter’s wedding reception at that location. An agreement was made verbally and the date was locked in for August 8. I gave her a down payment of $1000.00 towards the total cost. Two weeks ago I drove by the business and there was a “For Sale” sign outside. I went in to confront the owner who admitted that the business was for sale. I asked her what happens to us if the business sells. She said she didn’t think it would sell by August. I told her I’m not willing to take that chance for my daughters wedding. She gave me some nonsense that she is going to write in the sales contract that the new owner can’t take over the property until 2022 so she can honor outstanding contracts that she makes with people like me. I told her that I just can’t chance my daughters wedding and I wanted my money back so I could find a new venue. She refuses.
Spoke to Mari O, Owner.She said there is a written contract between them, Contract states no refunds. The store has been for sale for 3 years & sign up that long- now, because of this customers, she took sign down.She also stated that condition of sale for restaurant is that all contracts made will be honored. She will not sell until all contracts have been fulfilled. She has also pd deposits for rentals i.e.( linen, steam ware, etc) & she can not get money back. She still has daughters date on calendar.She will send a copy of the contract (written) she has w/ ***-said to please note her signature.Will send tomorrow.

I am rejecting this response because: I never signed a contract with Ms. O and when we spoke about using her place as a venue she never disclosed that it was for sale. We would NEVER have considered this venue if we had been told it was on the market. Also, I spoke to Ms O about my grave concerns that I can’t leave my daughters wedding to chance, and she agreed to give me my deposit back to avoid legal action and the following day refused. She has also refused to talk to me and said I am to talk to her attorney but has not given me his name or number. I would like to have this matter resolved. Also, she is well aware that we are NOT going to have the wedding at her place.
