The business has responded.  Please see below:This guest checked in and then had to leave expectantly before staying the night. Upon original check-in, per hotel policy, the guest's credit card was authorized for $167.07 which is a $149 rate plus tax. The guest canceled his reservation...

and spoke to the front desk manager who assured him he was not charged for the room. Upon further review of the case, the guest was never charged for the room however, the authorization is still pending. Authorization hold times are dependent on the issuing bank. The hotel did not and has no intent on charging the guest, but what the guest is thinking is a charge to his card is actually just the pending authorization. That pending authorization does get released back into the guest's account but he would need to reach out to the issuing bank of the credit card to see how long they hold authorizations for. In conclusion, the hotel did not charge the guest and the "charge" he is seeing is simply an authorization that gets released by the bank.
