Advance Appliance & Air Repair came to my house and fixed my ice maker. Here's what they said in an email back to me: "Sorry to hear about your floor. Hopefully, [redacted] communicated the fact that we discussed the attempt at fixing your water leak. Since the leak could not be reproduced, we had to guess at the Source of the leak. Since 70% of Icemaker leaks are caused by the water valve Sticking open, we went for that. Unfortunately, it appears that attempt was unsuccessful. So, apparently, the source of the leak is being caused by intermittent excessive calls for water from the Icemaker.When a problem cannot be reproduced, we are forced to guess which is Obviously not an exact science. We ask for your patience and understanding As we, you and us, work through it.Wrt to the floor damage, please be reminded of the invoice you signed where You agreed to release our company from any liability."They are part of [redacted] maintenance program so I had no say in their hiring. When testing for a water leak and the source of the cause is intermittent and cannot be reproduced, the only absolute resolution is to replace the appliance that is causing the leak. (You can imagine how happy homeowners are to hear that) So, we give it our best shot. When we are unable to reproduce the source of a water leak, it is our policy to communicate to the homeowner that we are not sure we have resolved the leak and to keep a close watch on the machine for recurrence. Every repair we do is a risk. We only hope all homeowners understand we are attempting to help them. But, we are not infallible and we must accept the risk together. We are hired to assist in a problem resolution. We are not hired to accept all responsibility for failure.Consumer Response I do understand the risk. Simply put, I hired you to fix the leak in the ice maker. Your service tech, fixed everything but the icemaker. The second repair service I called, I told him the same thing I told you. The icemaker flooded. He replaced the icemaker and fixed the problem. Your technician was a nice young man but seemed a bit inexperienced. He didn't fix the icemaker. By the way, you wouldn't have to replace the appliance, just the icemaker. I love your condescending references. Maybe you need to find another line of work if you can't repair the appliances you are hired to fix. Once again. I hired you to fix the broken icemaker. You failed to do so and my kitchen flooded. Will you pay to repair my floor damage due to your neglectful and insufficient work? Simple question for a simple job. Final Business Response We refuse to be bullied into submission.
