Advanced Basement Systems of Connecticut Reviews (8)

Review: After Hurricane Sandy, my wife and I needed remediation done in our crawl space. I hired [redacted] and Advanced Basement Systems ("ABS") to clean out and seal our crawl space. The job was completed and I paid ABS the sum of $1,900.00 by [redacted] credit card. During this time, I applied for financial assistance through a local charity, as my family was hit hard by the hurricane and we had a lot of expenses. We listed ABS as one of the contractors we had to hire. Thankfully we were granted some assistance and the charity drafted a check to ABS for $1,900.00 to cover our loss. I explained this to [redacted] and he assured me he would endorse the reimbursement to me. The check arrived and ABS deposited it but did not forward payment to me. I was able to confirm with the charity that the check was deposited and cleared. Hence ABS was paid twice for the same job. I called them and left messages on at least six (6) occasions asking about our reimbursement. Finally I wrote him a letter requesting the money. I sent that letter by first class mail, email and fax. ABS has not responded to my calls or letters. They have kept my reimbursement. despite the fact that I paid them. The check was deposited and kept by ABS going over two months ago.

Product_Or_Service: Basement remeidiation

Desired Settlement: I would like my $1,900.I would also think it would be appropriate for the State of Connecticut to sanction this business as they see fit. These actions are deplorable. Not only did I pay for the work, I referred neighbors to ABS who also hired their services. So not only did they profit from my job (which took only one day to complete), they secured other work through my referral. Not returning my letters, not returning my telephone calls and keeping my reimbursement is bad for CT.

Review: Our full basement dehumidifier that we purchased thru them as part of the package to dry up our basement is broken. Our contract states we have a 10 year warranty on the dehumidifier and also states our Flat Track Water Management System carries a Lifetime Structure Warranty, which says my basement will be dry livable space. The Warranty is transferrable to the next owner also. Well its been since May that it doesn't work and the basement is getting very damp and I have called numerous of times and have texted 29 times. he wont respond anymore.Desired Settlement: If he can please repair in a timely manner I will be pleased..

Review: Three years after we had our $10,0000 basement system installed by Advanced Basement Systems we got some water in our basement. We called [redacted] to come and check out the problem. He came with a camera on a Friday and said he would contact us during the weekend and be back either Monday or Tuesday with "some guys" to jackhammer the floor and see if there was a problem with the system.[redacted] never called and never showed up on Monday or Tuesday. My wife and I tried to call him for days and left apx 10 voicemails and never received a return call. We finally got a hold of him on a phone number listed on the internet for his business. He became agitated when he realized I was calling to find out if he was coming to fix the problem he said he would and said he was "at home and will call in the morning", which he never did.I have left two messages since, with no return call. It is obvious he is not going to return our phone calls or fix the problem as promised.Desired Settlement: Either come and fix the problem as promised, or refund our money spent to put in this only 3 year old basement system which has a contractual "lifetime guarantee"

Review: I contacted Advanced basement systems on August 12th notifying them that my sump pump, installed 2 weeks earlier, was defective and needed to be evaluated/replaced. In addition, the drainage location was causing issues in my yard and needed to be re-routed.After numerous calls, in excess of 20, my drainage system was re-routed, at no expense to me, towards the end of September and I was promised that the pump would be replaced in the coming days since it was a "small" job. He only needed to optain the correct model.I have been unable to Reach [redacted] since that date and he has not returned my calls.I only want to get what I was promised and what I paid for.Desired Settlement: Honor the warrantee to replace the pump and ensure my system is reliable. The pump should last 10+ years. If the pump fails, my basement will flood.

Review: I cancelled work to be completed via phone and in writing (email and registered mail) prior to the third business day after the date of signing the contract (a.k.a. Transaction) and requested full refund of my deposit. With the exception of an email that I received from the owner/general manager on July 8, 2013, which stated that his business' policy is, "On cancellation we always return funds within 7-10 business days," I have not been able to reach him via phone or email. It is now over a month since I cancelled the transaction and I have not yet received back my full deposit. I submitted a complaint to the [redacted] XXX-XXX-XXXX). [redacted]

Desired Settlement: Requesting assistance in securing a full refund of my deposit.

Review: This complaint may involve a health issue. On March 25, 2013 I signed a contract for work to be performed by Advanced Basement Systems of CT, LLC to perform work at my residence. The work entailed using a jack hammer to remove concrete around the perimeter of the basement wall to install a drain system to make the basement waterproof and free of any future leaks. The work was performed the second week of April this year. The system warranty is for life and is to cover the entire basement from future leaks. In mid June 2013, we had heavy rains which resulted in my basement becoming flooded with a couple inches of water. One of the items damaged in my basement was a heavy wool rug which is still sitting there saturated and smelly musty and moldy, a potential health risk. This saturated rug weighs over 150 pounds as it is soaking wet and I cannot remove it myself. Since the damage to it was as a result of the system failing, in my opinion, the above company not only needs to repair the system which has failed but also remove this rug for me. I spoke with the company owner, [redacted], shortly after the event. He came to my residence to inspect the water damage and reassured me he would come back shortly to fix this. He advised that he would have to drill in the middle of the floor to install "arteries" from the middle of the foundation to the perimeter. He confirmed this would be of no charge as the system was guaranteed to work and in this scenario, it did not. He did not initially know how much hydrostatic pressure was under my foundation or he would have performed this when he first sent workers to install the system. He had given me a date of July 3rd that he was to come and repair the system. I have not received a call nor did anyone show that day. Since then, I have made two phone calls to [redacted] and let messages with no return calls.

Product_Or_Service: Flat Track Water Management System

Order_Number: N/A

Account_Number: None listed

Desired Settlement: As outlined in the contract, I would like the company to repair the system and install the "arteries" as he described, so I will not receive any future water. Also as a courtesy, the business should remove the saturated rug from my basement given that I am not physically capable of removing this myself and would not have had to worry about this in the first place, should the system have functioned properly.

Review: I have been trying to reach the company regarding a service issue for weeks. I bought a system from them that came with a guarantee and am having issues. I have water coming up from the floor in a bedroom causing mold on my wall and carpet. I spoke with [redacted] on 8/29/13 and he said someone would be out on 8/30/13. No one showed up or called. I have left at least 4 messages since and not received a call back.Desired Settlement: I need someone to come out and fix the problem

Review: Advanced Basement systems gave us a life time warranty on the system they installed. A 5 yr warranty was given on the pump. We were having a problem with the pump and called [redacted] who is the owner on Feb. 25, 2014. He told my husband he would be out between 9 and 9:30 am that same day. He never showed or called back. Since then we have called several times a day for a week. He never returned our phone calls.Desired Settlement: Since Feb. 25 we have contacted the supplier of the pump directly. It looks like they are going to replace the pump. However, we want [redacted] to honor his life time warranty on this system. If we have any further problems with this system we want to make him accountable to come out and honor his lifetime warranty without the hassle he has caused us. We also want any monies spent in pursuing this complaint refunded to us.

Response:

This is an amendment to my above claim.

Since yesterday when I filed this complaint we found out we have further complaint information.

[redacted]. owner of Advanced Basement System told us he put in a Blue Angel 1/3 hp pump with a 5 yr warranty. When we contacted blue angel they told us to send the warranty and pictures of the pump. Blue Angel contacted us this morning, March 4, 2014 and told us that the pump was not a blue angel but a Utillitech pump. Therefore there is no warranty from them. I can fax you a copy of the warranty of the pump he said he put in if you want. So therefore I have a warranty for a pump that was never installed. So basically [redacted] lied about what pump he installed. Sounds like fraud.

We have purchased another pump as we cannot be without a pump for our basement. I run a small business from basement.

We would like to be reimbursed for the new pump we just purchased. Not sure if that is something you can help us with.

Thanks for the help
