Review: Aire Serv came to a rental property my brother and I own together under a company partnership, [redacted], because the furnace would not function at all. It did not even go on.

We had to leave but they called very shortly after we left so they were there for maybe only 10-15 minutes and told us that the entire furnace needed to be replaced at a cost of $5,000. He said he could install the new furnace the next day.

We called Aire Serv because our regular service guy was busy but we decided to get his opinion before spending $5,000. Our second opinion came and found that there was no power to the unit at all. After investigating he found a switch at the top of the steps that was turned off that kills the power to the furnace. We were in the process of showing the house to have it rented so likely a prospective tenant thought it was a light switch. Our 2nd opinion HVAC guy flipped the switch, turned on the thermostat, and everything has been working fine ever since.

Clearly there was nothing wrong other than the kills switch being turned off and the guy from Aire Serv was trying to sell us something we did not need. Our unit looks very old and dirty because it is in an old unfinished cellar of a 200 year old house so he probably figured it should be an easy sale. He also charged us $88.24 for the service call. When I called to complain and ask for a refund we were told that maybe we just need to get a city inspector out there to look at the unit and see if everything is okay. Clearly trying to intimidate us to back off to keep the city inspector out of our rental property. My brother got a little scared and did not call again but I decided to call back and [redacted], the technician who came to the house, now tried to tell me that he turned the switch off and that he "banged on the unit with his screwdriver" and that must have fixed it. He said we should thank him for fixing it... I wanted to be sure to get the name of the company to make a formal complaint and I did so and I told him that I was done and would not contact them again.

Later I got a call from a woman in the office saying that she understands that I keep calling her technician (I called once) and asking what my problem was. She was very rude and nasty and was clearly not calling to help but to be confrontational. I told her I had no further business with her. This is now a MONTH after the original service call... the woman in the office says... well, I think we just need to send a city inspector out to take a look at that furnace and make sure it is safe. This is payback because I called again and did not back down. It is a month later, she is clearly not worried about anyone's safety.

If it was not for the threatening and intimidation I would probably have let this entire thing go and just not have used their services again. But I am so disgusted by this tactic of trying to bully people.Desired Settlement: Would really like a refund and an apology in writing.

Review: I am having a cooling problem with my heat pump. The tech came to my home on July 31, 2013 and looked for the problem and found the Schrader valve leaking freon, this was tightened. Freon was then added to the system until the freon line sweated. Before the freon was added I was told the freon would cost for 1-3 lbs. @ $264.87. I did not know the going rate for 410A freon at this time, so told them to proceed. After 5 days I had the same problem and the tech came again on 8/5/2013 and said he could not find any problem. The system is sitll not working correctly as the temperature still goes up. I have since found out that 410A freon is going at a rate of between $26 and $32. So that means if you had one pound of 410A freon put in by this company it would cost $264.87 This is highway robbery. This company is also called Aire Serv. There is also an Aire Serv company in Front Royal and was told by them that I am not located in their service area, but the one in [redacted] is, however I still got an extra charge for being out of area by the Aire Serv in [redacted], normal charge $75, my charge $88.24.Desired Settlement: I believe I should be reimbursed for at least half the cost of the freon, of $264.87, plus $13 from the service chager of $88.24. This would be acceptable by me. I would at least have the one half of the freon charge.
