San Bernardino Shelter sent the dog we adopted here for her spay. She was covered in fleas, ticks, and dirt so when they called to talk about the procedure, we asked if they would wash her beforehand. The lady said they didn’t have a groomer there and wasn’t sure but they would try to make sure it was done. They called three times trying to authorize fluids, blood panel, and a cosmetic procedure because she had an extra toe. It seemed like they were going to call and try to get money anyway that they could. When it was time to pick her up they wanted to charge us $25 because they did bathe her. Why would they call to authorize every other charge but not this one? So we refused to pay and went back and forth. They then wanted another $100 for antibiotics and pain medication, which we refused because at this point we didn’t trust them and took her straight to Day Creek Animal Hospital where they provided a collar, medication, deworming, and took care of her ticks/fleas for $70. The vet also took a look at her incision and was unhappy with it. It doesn’t look like it was sewn up properly so we are keeping an eye on it. It’s very sad that this is the care center the shelter makes you use when they are taking advantage of people and trying to rip them off. We are trying to provide a better life for a dog that very much deserves it. Treat people better and actually care about an animals health before opening your doors for business.
