Advanced Vein & Laser Center Lancaster Reviews (%countItem)

Advanced Vein & Laser Center advertises "free ultrasound available" in the ad in the Lancaster newspaper. I had a consult with Dr. David W following my "free" ultrasound. I did not schedule an appointment for the procedure; my appointment was merely a consult to determine if my veins were severe enough for the procedure.
Not long after my consult, I received an EOB from my insurance company. Dr. W had billed my insurance company $240 for the "free" ultrasound. I later received a bill for the balance of the "free" ultrasound not covered by my insurance ($15.95.)
Today, I received a bill from *** for "Gc stocking" which I did not order. (These stockings were to be used after the procedure, which I didn't schedule.)
Advanced Vein and Laser center is deceiving customers by advertising "free ultrasound", when in fact it is not free. They are also purchasing medical equipment in my name which I did not order and do not want.

Advanced Vein & Laser Center Lancaster Response • Mar 19, 2020

Dear ***:

Thank you for allowing Advanced Vein & Laser Center of Lancaster to be a part of your care. I am sorry if there was any confusion. We do offer free screening ultrasounds and advertise for these screenings on a regular basis. When patients call our office for these ultrasounds our receptionist has a conversation explaining what the screening ultrasound involves, the scope of the exam being limited to seeing if there is any evidence of venous disease and that the free screening is generally a ten-minute appointment with our ultrasound technician. She routinely asks if the patient has any visible varicose veins or symptoms of pain, fatigue, or swelling. If there are any of these present the receptionist asks if they would like to schedule a full ultrasound which takes about an hour which is followed by a consultation with the doctor. The reason being if visible veins or known venous disease is present then the screening ultrasound would need to be followed by a formal ultrasound and evaluation by the doctor. She then asks the patient if they would like proceed with the free screening ultrasound or schedule the formal ultrasound or evaluation.

You had initially called prior to September 20th of 2018. Our receptionist has always had this dialogue since we have instituted the free screening ultrasounds. You had scheduled both the full ultrasound and evaluation by the physician for September 20, 2018. This appointment was rescheduled three separate times. Your new patient ultrasound and doctor evaluation was performed on December 13, 2019. Again, I apologize if there was any confusion or misunderstanding in any of the scheduling or rescheduling of the appointments. I am happy to remove the 15.95 charge from your account. In regards to the *** Charge, that is a medical supply company that we work with. When a procedure is recommended as in your case, we ask patients if they have appropriate compression stockings to wear for the required times after the treatment. If they do not, all of our medical assistants discuss the option of putting the stocking through your insurance when that option is available. If covered by insurance then the stocking may be covered at 100% if the deductible has been met and there is no co-insurance required by the patient's insurance company. When the deductible has not been met then the typical charge is about 70 to 75 dollars. Every patient is given an information page regarding purchasing compression stockings which I am including with this letter. When the patient does not have insurance that covers the stockings, we offer the option of buying the stocking at our location. Patients are welcome to shop other places. I am sorry that I cannot remove that charge for you regarding the stocking. Again, that is through *** which is a durable medical supply company.

Advanced Vein & Laser Center of Lancaster is very interested in well informed patients. We take the time to provide all relevant information regarding the health of your legs and any recommended treatments. We would be happy to provide you with the appropriate care. I am very sorry for any misunderstanding. Please feel free to call me with any questions or concerns at our office number of . Sincerely,

David W,

M.D. F.A.C.S
