Review: I received a call (I am on the National Do-Not-Call Registry)from Michael, stating [redacted] tech support had been trying to reach me because of several error messages and hacker issues within my laptop. I stated I have security through [redacted]. He stated my [redacted] protection had gotten blocked by hackers. He stated my computer needed cleaned, anti-hacking software installed, and then I would have monitored protection. It all made sense at the time, including showing and explaining via remote access. He used Notepad to explain three tiers of coverage, including cost and length of coverage: $199 for one pc, $249 for 3 pc's, $299 unlimited pc's for lifetime. I reluctantly chose the first option and paid with my debit card. He asked me to hold on (I thought he was verifying my card). My computer screen kept flashing back and forth between a black screen and a regular screen. He asked me a couple times to verify my 3-digit security code during this process. Then he stated the card wasn't valid(it was, I used it earlier in the day). He stated I had to pay cash. He remotely showed me two [redacted]ocations near me. I tried ending the call. He stated the service had already been completed on my computer and if I didn't pay he would lock my computer and my debit card. I refused, he locked my computer. The next day I cancelled my debit card and took my laptop to [redacted] for service.Desired Settlement: The emotional distress caused by this experience is difficult to quantity in monetary terms. Please advise if this is something I can pursue.I would like the repair costs I incurred ($260.09) to re-gain access to my computer be paid to me by Advancepctech.
