Initially when Mr. [redacted] brought his [redacted] in with [redacted] miles into our repair facility on 9/9/2016 he complained of a no start/hard crank condition. We tested the electrical system of his vehicle with our [redacted] electrical tester which tests, batteries, starters and...

alternators. His vehicle displayed a bad starter for which we printed out the diagnostic reading and presented the findings to Mr. [redacted] for his information and decision making. At that time our service manager explained that since his vehicle was over thirteen years old it may be difficult to find a new original equipment starter and not a rebuilt unit as Mr. [redacted] had initially requested but our service manager would try and present the cost findings to Mr. [redacted] prior to proceeding with any repair work, which is our Company policy. Our service manager spoke with Mr. [redacted] a day after receiving his vehicle and explained that he had found a New Starter from [redacted] at a cost of $249.51 for the starter part only plus tax and labor but that the new [redacted] dealer starter part would only carry a twelve (12) month, 12,000 mile warranty from the dealer and would not cover labor replacement should the part fail, meaning that he would have to pay our repair facility to once again replace the starter should the part fail for any reason. The dealer also explained that it would take at least one week to have the part shipped to our repair facility given the fact that the starter was not available in the State of [redacted] or located in the [redacted] area. Our service manager explained to Mr. [redacted] that the cost of a rebuilt starter would be $185.00 for the part only plus tax and labor, but would come with a lifetime warranty nationwide.[redacted] did not manufacture the starter part as he references. The rebuilt starter part would be covered by The [redacted] Nationwide Peace of Mind Warranty since we are a [redacted] Care Authorized Facility, as detailed on the reverse side of Mr. [redacted]'s repair invoice.Included with his invoice #[redacted] was also a small index card alerting him that the lifetime part warranty was transferable should he decide to sell his vehicle and towing service for whatever reason was also covered with no questions asked pertaining to his electrical system, though he may have to wait for reimbursement from the manufacturer. Labor on the repair is covered for a period of two (2) years or 24,000 miles whichever occurs first and our labor would be covered should the part fail for any reason, as a [redacted] Care Facility as is detailed on the back of his invoice. Our service manager went on to explain to Mr. [redacted] that even if the rebuilt starter failed outside of a 25 mile radius from our facility ANY [redacted] Care Facility would warranty the repair free of charge to Mr. [redacted], the 800 # is also printed on the reverse side of Mr. [redacted]'s invoice. Once we were notified by Mr. [redacted] and he approved the repair it took less than a day to complete the job. We waited for Mr. [redacted] to respond to our service manager for authorization for the repairs and decide which starter part he elected to chose for the replacement on his vehicle, as is our Company Policy. Our repair facility did tow his vehicle back to our shop to warranty the replacement of his starter, for which we have no control over the failure of parts, on 11/10/2015 and we did so at not cost to Mr. [redacted] on either parts, towing or labor. It is unfortunate that parts fail which is why on this last occurrence we had to look at possible other conditions which may cause the shorting of the starter. On December 6, 2016 when Mr. [redacted] had his vehicle towed by [redacted] to our shop, and elected not to call the the number provided to him on the index card we presented him at the time of his purchase, we tested the electrical system of Mr. [redacted]'s vehicle again and noticed that his battery had corrosion on the top connections. When our service manager responded to Mr. [redacted] and expressed his findings, Mr. [redacted] said he had replaced his own battery after the starter part was replaced by our repair facility. In good faith, after testing his starter once again, we had our technician clean his corroded battery connections and replace a battery terminal at NO COST to Mr. [redacted] and delivered his vehicle back to Mr. [redacted] on December 30, 2016 after leaving four (4) voice mails. There are several reasons why a starter could short out and one reason would be a dirty battery connection. At the time Mr. [redacted] delivered his vehicle to the shop for a possible starter warranty replacement on December 6, 2016 our service manager explained that we had employees on vacations for the holidays and that it may take some additional time to address his issue. Mr. [redacted] explained that he wasn't in a hurry for the vehicle and understood that it was the holiday season. Our warranty that is at the bottom of every repair invoice reads in part "In the event that there is warranty work to be done on your vehicle, it must be done at this facility, and it is up to the owner of said vehicle to deliver vehicle to this facility" . Mr. [redacted] signed the bottom of his repair Invoice agreeing to the terms and conditions of his repair on his vehicle at our facility. We are obliged to provide Mr. [redacted] with a copy of his invoice should he request a copy or has misplaced his original. We have stayed in contact with Mr. [redacted] on all his repairs, and while we cannot control part availability or delivery of said parts we believe that our repair facility has acted in good faith to repair his vehicle in a timely manner and left either voice mails on his home or cell telephone during which time we had possession of his vehicle. In conclusion, Mr. [redacted] has the option to spend an additional $40.00 for a lifetime warranty starter which is new and not rebuilt from the manufacturer [redacted]. [redacted] in an effort to assist in the resolution of his claim will pay us for our labor at a fraction of our billable cost, but we will not refund his money on the initial repair for which we have provided warranty replacement, twice, driven to his home on two (2) occasions, towed his vehicle back to our repair facility for the warranty replacement, cleaned his battery, FREE OF CHARGE at no cost and provided the necessary information for his decision making on the replacement of his starter part. In addition, should Mr. [redacted] chose, the manufacturer will request the initial starter part be returned as part of the new replacement. The warranty for the new starter part will begin on the date the part is replaced if chosen to do so by Mr. [redacted] and the resolution of this claim shall be deemed closed, satisfied and redacted from our profile.
