Hindsight being 20/20 we would have done this differently. We rolled over a 401K plan to a self directed IRA through Advantage Gold. That I believe was not a bad thing to do. This was a good chuck of our retirement. Where we went off was purchasing the higher price products. Being new at this you can be swayed pretty easy. Do you think Advantage Gold makes more off of bullion product close to spot price or what they call premium product which really is glorified bullion product. Here's an example. You will be presented to buy fractional coins. 1/4 ounce gold coins. Now that's not a bad idea based on the price of the product if its somewhat near spot. However we were steered to 1/4 ounce gold coins that were $496.00 dollars each. Spot at that time for a 1/4 ounce coin was $313.50. We bought 60 at $496 which put us just short of $30,000 investment. 60 x 313.50 just over $18,000. If I wanted to sell off those premium coins most if not all coin dealers are going to give you spot price. I could have bought 1/4 ounce American Eagles for $350 each. Guess what I bet they make greater profit at the $496 than the 350. We were not even offered the 350 coin. Now we have high priced product don't know how to sell it as we get older and feel stuck. THE POINT here is to be careful. Watch out for yourselves and be careful ask a lot of questions.
