Review: I bought a fashion baseball cap item number [redacted]on December [redacted], 2015. It states on the receipt that holiday purchases may be returned or exchanged until January [redacted]. It also states that unworn items can be returned to the store with original ticket and receipt for EXCHANGE OR GIFT CARD within 14 days. If one reads further, it states that UPON RETURN OR EXCHANGE your name, address, phone number, and signature may be required for audit purposes and that a photo id will be required upon the issuing and redemption of a gift card.

I left the store on January [redacted] (when I went to go return the item within the 14 days) with the cap still with me because I was surprised that I could not return it and get my money back (I paid with cash). First off, I was floored that I had to exchange or get store credit/a gift card instead of returning it. I have only shopped there once before maybe 5 years ago and I never returned that particular item, so I did not pay any attention to the receipt or the return policy, NOR WAS I INFORMED BY THE CASHIER OF THEIR RETURN POLICY.

Second, the writing is confusing because at one point it states that holiday purchases may be RETURNED or exchanged until January [redacted]. What constitutes a "holiday purchase"? Just beneath the price of the item on the receipt it states "Item(s) sold: 1, Item(s) returned: 0" meaning that I CAN in fact return an item. Just beneath that, the receipt states that the items can be exchanged or be given back for store credit. Further down it states "upon RETURN or exchange...". I do not understand why this writing is so confusing. Also, it would have been nice for the cashier to inform me of the lack of returns for a full refund BEFORE MY PURCHASE OF THE ITEM.

Third, I have never gone to a store and have them state that it is store policy to take my first and last name, my number, my email, my address, my social security number, my state id, my passport, etc in order for issuance of a gift card/store credit from a store. [redacted] does not require this, nor does [redacted] etc. The cashier I spoke to on January [redacted] 2016 told me it was store/company policy. Why is this? It also states on the receipt that this is "MAY BE required for audit purposes.", meaning that I can opt out of giving them my information, correct? Yet the cashier told me it was the policy of the business. Again, WHY IS THIS? How many businesses have been hacked in the last few years and had all the names, numbers, birthdays, social security numbers and the like stolen from them? This "policy" is a case of identity theft waiting to happen.

Also, what "audit purposes" does the business need all my information for? I will reiterate that no other business that I have bought items at needed anything for so called "audit purposes".Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund of the $9.97. I am willing to include a picture/scan of the receipt if needed. It is ridiculous that they need all this information and I am not even getting my original form of payment (cash) back.
