Affordable Automotive & Towing Reviews (1)

Review: I took my PT Cruiser to Affordable Towing on July 17, 2013 because there was a bad gas smell. I was going out of state for work purposes and I ask owner if he would take his time to look over my car from top to bottom because my son would be driving it to a training in Richmond for his job and this would be his first road trip and I wanted to make sure everything would be okay. I received a message on Wednesday July 24th saying my car was ready to be picked up. Owner said he had fixed the fuel line because there was a hole in the line and that's why I was smelling gas and he also put on back brakes. I contacted my son to go pick it up and for him to leave his blazer to have some repairs done while I was still out of town and he could use the PT. My two sons picked the PT up and approximately 15-20 minutes later my son called and said they were sitting in the middle of a busy road and smoke was coming out of the car and also into the car. I immediately called Owner and told him what happen and he needed to go tow my car back to the shop. Owner called the next day and said my engine was blown! He also went on to say that it was my son's fault and not his. He also said that my son had drove my car so hard since I had been out of town that is what caused the engine to blow up. I took my car to Affordable Towing before I left town and it was in their possession until my two sons picked it up. Youngest son was with my oldest and I know for a fact that oldest son was not driving fast, hard or whatever word Owner wants to use. My son is a good responsible driver. He would never do anything to harm his brother or others on the road. On Saturday July 27th my son's blazer broke down and I called Owner and ask if he would tow my son's blazer (I own it) and see what was wrong with it. I returned home on Sunday July 28th. On Monday July 29th I received a call from Owner saying the blazer was ready and my son had ran out of gas. Owner said he replaced the fuel filter that looked like it had never been replaced. I picked up the blazer on Monday afternoon and Owner told me I needed to talk to my son about running out of gas and how it messes up a car and he also suggested I go to Advance Auto and purchase Seafoam to put in the gas tank. I did and I also got $30 worth of gas. I got onto I81 and within 1-2 minutes the engine was running hot, the gauge was in the red, I immediately pulled on the side of the road and called Owner. Owner said "Are you kidding me?" I said "Does it sound like I am kidding you?" Come get me and you will also need to take me home. His mechanic, came and towed the blazer and also took me home. The next day Owner called and told me that the engine was also blown in the Blazer. Seriously?? Two cars, same problem, same mechanic within 3 days of each other. Owner said the blazer was not worth fixing and he would try to find an engine for the PT. He called the next day and said he had found an engine for $450 but it did not come with a warranty and the junk yard did not know how many miles was on it. I told him I did not want that engine and would he please make some phone calls and find another one. The next call Owner said I can not find an engine. I ask him if he could give me the information that I would need to tell junk yards when I called them so I could call around. He never gave me this information. He once again blamed both blown engines on my son. I received several facebook messages from Owner saying he had called around and could not find an engine for the PT but just for kicks he did ask one place about the blazer and they did have an engine for $950. He suggested that I cut my losses on both and buy a new car. On August 5th I received a facebook message from Owner saying he was closing his shop at the end of the week because his mechanic was in jail again and he was loosing money so he decided to close the shop and go back to just towing. I replied to his message with the following message: Just have one question. So if you were out on a tow call and your mechanic was the one who "supposedly" worked on my cars, was he intoxicated when he was working on both of them? Owner had told me several months before this happen that his mechanic stayed drunk and he would have to go back and fix things that were not fixed properly. I also told Owner that I trusted him with both of my cars and that he and I both knew there was no way that two cars with no engine problems would blow up within 10-15 minutes of leaving his shop. I also told him that now I was out of 2 cars because his choice in mechanics whom he clearly knew had personal problems. Owner's next message: I was there watching mechanic and I helped to try to save you money. Your son blew them up. You were out of town and he ran them hard. I should have never told you I was closing. This is the reason I am closing because I try to help someone and get blamed for something someone else does. We never worked on the blazer so how did we blow it up? Just pay the bill and remove it from my lot ASAP. Actually I am not closing, I just wanted to be nice and you take your business somewhere else because Robert doesn't want to work on your cars anymore and neither do I. Owner did work on my blazer. He put a new fuel filter on so he did do some kind of work. I am now without transportation for not only myself but my son. I am a hard working single mother who trusted Owner with my automobiles and because of his lack of hiring professional mechanics who are not alcoholics has put a huge financial burden on me as well as jeopardizing not only my job but my son's as well. The public needs to know about the Owner and his garage. On August 19th, I paid $283.19 for repair bill on fuel line and back brakes. I had my PT towed to another Mechanic who confirmed the engine was blown.Desired Settlement: I want Owner to pay me $2,500 for destroying my Chevy Blazer and Chrysler PT Cruiser. I owe $2,500 on the PT and I do not feel I should have to pay off a car that I can no longer drive due to his mistakes and bad judgments in mechanics. I do not want Owner to fix my car because I no longer have any trust in him. I own the blazer and I am able to sell it to a junk yard. My main concern is the PT that I still owe on and until it is paid off I can not sell it. I have had to take time off of work to take my son to Richmond for his training and I also had to rent a car to do so. I have also had to stress over getting myself to work, my son to work and getting my youngest son to football practice.

In regards to the complaint from Ms. [redacted] I would like to start by saying this is the first complaint I have ever had in my 25 years of automotive and towing service. We at Affordable Automotive & Towing take pride in our work and go that extra mile to help those in need.Until this event we had worked on Ms, [redacted] vehicles with no issues from her. 3 months before she brought her Chrysler PT Cruiser to us Ms. [redacted] called me complaining of an oil light coming on. I told her this could be nothing more than a faulty sensor or something major as an oil pump going out and she should get it to me asap. She informed me she had no money for repairs. I told her I would give her a line of credit at the shop since I knew she was a single mom and a good customer (I thought). So 3 month later she shows up with the car after a fuel line ruptured. We was informed by Ms. [redacted] her son was going on a trip in this car so inspect the car all over. We found the rear brakes bad and the oil was over 5000 miles over due for a change. We topped off all fluids (including the antifreeze), changed the oil and filter, and rear brakes. After we were done I personally drove the car to lunch and back and it was in top condition. I called Ms. [redacted] and informed her that the car was ready to pick up. While we were out on a tow her son picked up the car and dropped of a Chevy Blazer which we had worked on before. I received a phone call from Ms. [redacted] son informed me the car had died after picking the car up from the shop about 15 miles away. I ask what happen and he told me it over heated. He admitted to me he seen the gauge getting hot and lights flashing but kept driving until he completely cooked the engine and the car would not run anymore. After towing it back to the shop Ms. [redacted] son had got a ride to pick his Blazer up before we returned with the PT Cruised which we never touched or even seen at the shop. We found no antifreeze in the radiator of the PT Cruiser. It was full when it left. It seemed it had blown a head gasket. The very next day Ms. [redacted] calls me to inform me the Blazer had quit running also and wanted me to tow it from Radford to the shop and fix it. We towed it in. I unloaded it from the rollback and it started right up. The fuel gauge was on empty so I thought it was just out of gas and Ms. [redacted] said he only put $10 in it a day before. We put 2 gallons of gas and a new fuel filter on it which I never charged Ms. [redacted] for and told Ms. [redacted] she could come get it and I would just put it on her bill. She drove it about 2 miles from the shop and it died. We towed it back and realized her son had blew the head gasket in the Blazed too! It started back up for us when the engine was cold after it was towed in the first time. We check the old and it had antifreeze in it. Two cars in two days with blown head gaskets being driven by a teenage boy. So the answer to Ms. [redacted] problems is not us but her teenage son. I have had a close family member of Ms. [redacted] to come apologize to me for sending her to me in the first place. It seems we are just victims to a long line of shops Ms. [redacted] has complained about. After Ms. [redacted] finely paid us about a month later and picked up her car using another tow company her finance company called looking for the car. I assume she was late on payments. In closing I just want to say I try everything I can do to help people in need and will go above and beyond to do so and Ms. [redacted] knows I will too. It really hurts that she has made such a false complaint about someone who gave her credit and help her out as much as we did. I will think twice before I do again. Response:

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.I totally disagree and will continue to fight for action to be taking against the owner. He and his mechanic blew BOTH of my automobiles up. Not my son! I have NEVER filed a complaint or had any issues with other garages. The owner continues to tell lie after lie in regards to what happen to my automobiles, my son as well as myself. My family member that he speaks of did not go to him and apologize nor did he tell the owner that I have had issues with other garages. The owner needs to stop putting blame on my son. He was not with my son when he drove my PT Cruiser off of his lot but my younger son was and they both have said the same thing. My son who drove the car, called me before he called the owner and he pulled over immediately when the car started smoking. If the owner and his mechanic would have done quality repair work on my car this would have never happen. I have never driven any car of mine 5,000 miles over the date of an oil change and if the owner would think back to the day I got the oil change, I told him when I picked up the PT that the mileage was wrong and he just smiled and said he would change the sticker but did not. As for my phone call to the owner regarding the oil light coming on, the owner said it was probably a sensor and if I was not able to bring it to him right then, that I needed to check my oil daily just to be on the safe side which I did. A co-worker checked it everyday as well as myself on weekends. I took the PT to the owner immediately when I started smelling gas and that is when I ask the owner to keep my car and check everything out for me because my son had to go out of town for work. The owner had my car before I left to go out of town on business until the day he called me while I was still out of town and said it was ready to be picked up. So how could my son drive it so hard while I was out of town??? He did not have the car. My son has an excellent driving record and would never put his little brother or other drivers in jeopardy by driving a car too hard. In regards to my blazer, I picked it up when I returned from my business trip. Owner and his mechanic said they replaced the gas filter as well as put gas in it. So how does another engine blow up 10 minutes after leaving from his shop?? There are too many unanswered questions as well as too many lies. If this would have happened to one of my cars, I may have understood but probably not especially if I personally ask the owner to check over my car to see if there were other issues since he would have the PT for well over a week. The owner needs to own up to his errors and admit that he is responsible for not one but two car engines being blew up within 10-15 minutes after leaving his shop. How could this possibly happen?? It happen because the owner knows his mechanic has a drinking problem and has told me numerous times that he has had to go back over cars to make sure his mechanic did the work properly. Obviously this time, he did not go back over his mechanics work and I am the one who is suffering from losing not one but two cars. Yes I am a single mother who works 2 full time jobs and goes to school part time and I have no financial means to purchase another car for myself or my son. Think about other potential customers who may take their cars to him and the possibility that he will let his mechanic work on their car intoxicated and not do quality work and they too will be out of transportation. I would never accuse someone of anything if I did not feel 100% sure that their negligence were the cause of the problem. Regards,[redacted]
