This letter is in response to complaint#[redacted] Thank you for the opportunity to defend myself againstthese false allegations.First off when Ms. Customer called me, she was highly agitated and distraught claiming that the previouscontractor she hired, had “ripped her off’ and complained of a...

leaking roof. She was so upset, I took pity onher despair, and went to take a look at the situation. She needed the front side of her roof replaced, with the possibility of also having to replace any rottenwood beneath. It was agreed upon $1800.00 to remove and replace shingles. Wood replacement, an additional $200.00.I also explained to Ms. Customer that if she chose to pay by credit card, a 3% fee ($60.00) would also becharged to her card. She also agreed to that. The 3% service fee goes to the credit card company forhandling the transaction, NOT in my pocketlThe $200.00 credit she is seeking because she chose to clean up the debris is actually $200.00 sheSAVED by NOT having us do the cleanup.1 used White Aspen shingles because it is a closer match (due to weathering) with the shingles on the backside of roof. The Aspen White is the same price as Aspen Gray. Color choice does not affect the price. We ran a bundle short near completion, (which disputes her accusations of over measuring and buying toomany bundles etc.) Ms. Customer said she had leftover Aspen Gray from the previous work that we werewelcome to use. Rather than leave the site to buy another bundle, we decided to take her up on her offer. She now states that she paid $75.00 for the shingles she offered us. She didn’t pay me $75.00. Again, shesaved herself some money by using the shingles from her prior roofjob. They were NOT stolen. They areon her roofi Nothing was stolen.I suspect Ms. Customer is simply complaining and making false accusations to badger me into refundingher money.I take pride in my work and care about the reputation of my business. She hired me because she felt thefirst contractor “ripped her off’. I stand behind my work. I don’t see where she is owed any compensation.Thank You

Review: have signed contract was to have ASPEN GRAY shingles put on front 1/2 of home Ed L[redacted] decided he could make more money off me by using cheaper shingles and what he had on hand

he put ASPEN WHITE shingles on the house NO PERMISSION or discussion and now front half of home roof is one color and the back half a different color he STOLE three bundles shingles from what I had left from back half used them then took HIS three bundles home with him NO credit off bill he OVER ESTIMATED total size of roof to be shingled charged MORE than what was needed then with NO permission or advanced notice charged me an additional $60 for HIS charges because he took a charge card as payment he also was to discount $200.00 for NO debris cleanup as I did that myself NO credit on bill for that eitherDesired Settlement: cannot fix the difference in color now since I have NO more money and in order to fix would have to tear whole roof off and re shingle I want some sort of compensation for him breaching contract HALF of total amount and repayment for shingles he stole from me which cost me $75.00 I want refunded for the over charge amount also that he pocketed from over estimation of total area of roof and finally NO ice guard tar paper was used which is required in code regulations

Review: on 9/16/13 we contacted affordable builders and gave them $10,000 down. we told contractor we wanted a black metal roof on house and 14x22 building. we wanted gutters on house. he went up on the roof to take measurements, told him roof was leaking for years. he said metal roof would be fine because the wood underneath would dry from the heat of the metal. we told him we wanted 1/2 plywood. under lip of the roof on building wood needed replaced-he replaced it with pieces and it looks terrible. he told us the snow guard came with the roof but it was never installed. we gave him more money for the metal roofing, he also charged another $850. for vinyl over the porch. he used particle on the roof. the roof still leaks, the gutters and soffit are hanging about 15 feet; back porch has leaks. rain is running off the roof, not into gutters, therefore running down front of house behind where porch is attached, rain getting in porch ceiling and running down the floor of porch. we have called him repeatedly but refuses to make any corrections to this mess--wants more money even though we have paid him approximately $20,000.00. I have also filed a complaint with the attorney general. my next step may be to hire an attorney.Desired Settlement: I would like Mr. L[redacted], owner of affordable builders to come back to my home and fix this entire mess, with no extra charges involved. he took advantage of my husband and I being senior citizens.

Response:

I am writing in response to a complaint against my company. Affordable Builders. I appreciate theopportunity to defend the integrity of my business.I have been working construction for 32 years and have owned my own business for almost 20 years.A little over 2 years ago, Sept.16,2013, I was hired by the “homeowners” to install black metal roofing onthe main root porch root and shed. In addition, I was to install 150 feet of gutter, vinyl to porch ceiling, and re-install missing soffit. (customer had saved the missing pieces)As a professional, I felt that my work there was done properly and accordingly to their desires. Theyrepeatedly mentioned how beautiful and pleased they were with the results.Late September ofthis year (2 years later) the “homeowners” contacted me complaining of loose gutter andsoffit. On October 5,2015 1 went to their home to see what was going on and to try to satisfy theircomplaint. I discovered that the problem pertained to a rotted fascia board beneath aluminum fascia. In mydefense, 2 years ago, when I hung the gutters, everything seemed intact and there appeared to be no reasonto tear off the aluminum to check for rotten wood, nor did the customer request it. Upon discovering whatthe culprit was, I offered to repair it by installing a new fliscia board, 30 ft of fascia, and rehang the gutterfor a fee of 300 dollars. Keep in mind, this is 2 years later. The last 2 winters have been extreme and long.Last winter several ice storms, that can be heavy on gutters. I feel this may have played a part in the guttercoming loose.I feel that the homeowners over-embellished with their complaints. Unfortunately , there are times whencustomers expect a lifetime of free repairs. I have no comment concerning the interior ofthe home. All ofmy work was done outdoors.I have agreed to do the above repairs at no cost to the customer to resolve this complaint.Thank you
