The stone the customer picked had soft spot in the slabThe material was very unpredictableThe customer saw at our shop that the first slab broke when landing on the sawWe used additional caution when landing the second slab on our saw and it broke as wellWe have processed granite for over
years and this has NEVER happened beforeWe called the supplier and they gave us the next sequential slab to the original slab selectedWe cut these slabs while they were still on the trailer with a hand saw to insure that they wouldn't break as at this point with the extra material purchased, I had already lost money on this projectWe strapped wood supports to every pieces while it was in our shop being processed, while it was being transported and sent an extra guy out on the installation to insure that the piece wouldn't breakSo not only did I have to purchase extra material, I had a lot of additional labor as well
At first, the customer accused us of mismatching the materials because she saw that the first slab had broken and we assured that did not happen because we purchase a THIRD slabWe could have used the broken piece but that would have required us putting an additional seam in the material and we did not want to do that, EVEN THOUGH our contract says that all seams are at our discretion
The customer should refer to their contract, item # which states that "ALL SEAM LOCATIONS TO BE AT OUR DISCRETION AND THAT THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR A CHANGE IN THE VEIN DIRECTION OR COLOR VARIATION IN THE SEAM AREAS"
Pictures of the customer's counters are attachedThere is a seam down by the appliance garage and another seam directly in the middle over the dishwasher
Our industry is standards are set by the MARBLE INSTITUTE OF AMERICAAttached is a picture of seams on a radiused counter showing what INDUSTRY STANDARDS are for seamsOur work has more than EXCEEDED industry standards
Below is a link from what a competitor published regarding good seams vsbad seams with pictures. Our seams more than exceed what this competitor says to expect from a GOOD SEAMThe fact is that we are gluing together two pieces of natural rock with various colors, veins, grain structuresThis is not a man made material that is consistent

The customer states that we have been back twice to try to please herFilled pits in the surface of the stone even though those pits were there when she picked those slabsStone is a natural product and the customer has to expect variations

I'm sorry that we cannot seem to make the customer happy. The complaintant's hall bathroom was done in September, with no negative reviews or ill feelings. Their daughter's job was completed in October and she did not write us a negative review until yesterday, 3/3/16, almost six months after her job was finished. The complaintant's job in question was started after their daughter's job was finished. If the daughter was unhappy with our work, why did the parents have us do a second bathroom for them?
We did no new electrical wiring, everything was pre-existing.
If the customer has any plumbing leaks, we would be glad to address them. Water does not hide. We have addressed every issue they had on the job and even sent our foreman there on a Saturday in double overtime to address any concerns. When our foreman, Toby, left the job, [redacted] told Toby that they were satisfied and pleased. Now, Toby has personally received fines as a result of the customer. Toby is a great guy and did everything he could to make the customer happy and is being fined personally.
The communication was never with [redacted]. It was with his wife as he was not even in town for most of our work. I have multiple pages of text messages where we immediately replied to any questions or concerns. When the customer called me at 7pm to report after his first shower that water was coming from under the shower door onto the floor, I called him back within five minutes and I and my foreman were at the customer's house first thing the next morning.
I have been held responsible for the hot water heater which I knew nothing about as the customer hired one of my employees without my knowledge to do the work under the table. The customer personally bought the hot water heater and paid my employee in cash.
Mr. [redacted], I'm sorry that you are not happy. You did not pay the last $1,000 of our invoice. Your bathrooms look beautiful. I feel like this is a witch hunt and innocent people like Toby have been caught in the cross fire which makes me sad.

There were a couple of problems with the customer's job, I will agree and we did fix all of those issues. The customer does not say that his daughter hired us to do her master bathroom remodel and the job had no issues. The customer also hired us to do their hall bathroom and that job had no issues....

The customer does not also say that he hired one of our employees UNDER THE TABLE to install a new hot water heater for him as the customer and the employee thought might be the problem but never did the customer contact me or our office for assistance with the issue, yet held ME responsible. The customer's job is finished. The work looks exceptional. We are having a licensed electrician go in to reconfirm that we HUNG THE LIGHT FIXTURES correctly. We did not move any electrical - just installed new trim. The customer did not pay their final balance of $1065.16. I have attached photos of the work that we did at it's daughter's house as well as photos of the second job that we did at his house that he has filed this complaint over so you can see that quality of work for yourself.

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because: It is the general contractors responsibiltiy to ensure all work is properly permitted, perform to code, and to assign licensed personnel where appropiate.  Washingtos State Labor and Industries have decided there was non compliance.  They are the ones who issued fines.  I believe the general contractor is at fault for asking her personnel  to perform work they were unqualified to perform and were not licenced to do.  As mentioned previously, if the general contactor had chosen to visit the job site to hear our grievances, review the quality and to ensure the schedule was met, we would be having this discussion.  Again, the general contractor did not respond to our email even though her employee told she had received.  We were the quality control for the entire job.  It would not look so nice if we had not been  constantly  on top of it.  You also mentioned you were sending an electrican to review the work.  We have not heard from said electrician.  As for the final bill, I sent you a letter stating my position and also stating we were willing to go to arbitration as per the contract.  You never responded to that letter.  Yes, I am holding you responsible for the water heater and our having to be on site management. Plus the job did not meet the promised completion date of Nov 3, 2015 but was finished Jan 9, 2015 because of constant repairs to poor quality work and the fact the shower door was not ordered on time.Sincerely,[redacted]

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because:We were unable to respond to your email in a timely manner.  This situation was not resolved. No effort was made to contact us to resolve this issue.  I would like to address issue by issue. First of all, we were never notified that two slabs had been broken. Instead of affordable cabinets addressing the issue with us , they went ahead and templated without our input which we were promised to be able to do.  At no time were we notified of problems they had with the slab. They also put a bracket on a phone table so badly that the drawer no longer fits and we will have to have a professional contractor  fix it. We are not complaining of the location of seams or how many seams they put in. But of the shoddy workmanship of the seams, piecing together two different pieces of slab at the seam causing the pattern not to meet at the seam. At no time did we ever complain of pits in the surface but we did address the edges of the granite counter tops and the rough surface around the under mount sink.  Not only did they fail to polish these edges to our satisfaction but they completely changed the shape of the sink area. we were told that there would be a resin used on the edges to fill and polish smooth and this was not the case. We were told by affordable that they had installed this particular  granite before in another home, if this was the case  then they would of been familiar with this type of granite. I can possibly see one slab being defective but not three. Also when we went to pick out granite, there was not a piece that followed consecutively that they could of gone  and purchased. After spending 9,000.00 I am very disappointed in a company that supposedly has 25 years experience not being able to put in 2 seams on a granite counter top that match. Please see pictures of our seams attached.Thank you,[redacted]

Their response is misleading. First, they performed more electrical work than hang light fixtures. They are not generously providing an electrician to review their work.  WA State Labor and Industries has ordered them to do so because of electrical non-compliance. To date seven citations have been issued.  Affordable continues to ignore our plumbing concerns.  Improper plumbing installation resulted in water running behind the wall. We are concerned this may not be corrected.  Second plumbing issue resulted in the purchase of an unnecessary water heater.  Labor and Industries are investigating plumbing issues as well.  There were a multitude of problems throughout this job including using unlicensed personnel (see reviews on Yelp and Angie's List).  As for communication, we were told the voice function of her phone is unreliable due to location, responses to our text msgs were iffy, an email pleading for her to visit the job site to discuss our grievances went unanswered even though we were told she had received it. You quickly learn you are on your own to ensure the work is completed properly.  She never responded to my letter with our grievances and final payment proposal You should look at reviews and L&I complaints for their previous company, NW Natural Stone whose license was suspended by L&I March 2015. Ref daughters job, she was also unhappy as well. See her reviews.  Attached is a photo of under sink plumbing which was typical of the overall job.  At our insistence, this was corrected.  This general contractor never comes to the job site.
