In response to Mr***’s complaint: Our representative did sign his estimate that was given to Mr***. There was some back and forth on pricing and there was some human error by our representative in measuring the roof. Before we put the project into
production, we ordered a satellite measurement to double check the measurements, which uncovered the error that was made. We then notified Mr*** that a mistake was made and the roof was larger than originally measured, therefore we could not start his project (re-roof with a special order shingle and re-deck, windows, and all gutters) for the price previously discussed with him. We told him the project would take an additional $4,if he still wanted us to start the project (not a phone call that we wanted to make knowing we may lose the contract). He did not seem to understand or believe that we were being honest upfront rather than starting the project and attempting to get more money in the end (a practice that we avoid). He proceeded to tell us that his insurance was going to lapse in March (we assume due to the lack of repairs from the insurance claim in May of 2015) and we are at fault now if he doesn’t get a roof installed before the lapse in his insurance coverage. Mr*** originally contacted us for an estimate on January 1, and our last conversation regarding the estimate was February 24, We told him that our contracts are subject to management approval and that’s when he stated that he did not receive the terms and conditions on the back of the estimate/contract (although his signature is just above the statement: “Customer has read and agrees to all terms and conditions on the back of this Agreement.”). At that time, we emailed him a copy of the terms and conditionsWe did not encourage Mr*** to sue us, rather he stated that he would sue us and send us the bill from the new roofing company that he hires. We told him that if the other companies that he received estimates from (supposedly hirer that our original estimate) would stand behind their price, that we’re certain that they would be happy to take his money. He replied: “No, they have already moved on”We did not provide any materials or any services beyond the estimate(s) that were given. We apologize for any inconvenience and wish Mr*** the best with his repairs Respectfully, *** *** Affordable Construction Co

Revdex.com Complaint #XXXXXXXX
Response:
We were not aware of the original Revdex.com complaint in JuneWe cannot find that letterSorry, for that
Internally, we have a project manager assigned to this project and he has been trying to
figure out what to do about the siding
We have found some answers that will allow is to move forward
Regarding the concerns and issues at hand:
the siding "disfiguring" is a mysteryUsually when siding "melts" or "warps" it's from a heat source that is too high for the siding to withstand
Temps over degrees are not natural and will melt vinyl siding
We have reviewed the situation and feel that the windows are creating a reflection that is melting the siding
We took a piece and sent it to the manufacturer and have been waiting for their response
In our own research we did find similar cases on the Internet and in the newsIncluding a news report done by ABC Channel in Baltimore, MDSee http://www.abc2news.com/news/local-news/investigations/the-strange-phenomenon-th... /> This story is very similar to the one at hand
We also found that these window-siding melting's are happening in the winter because of the low angle of the sun
So, what we are looking to do now is find out which vinyl siding materials do stand up to the sun(Find one that doesn't melt from reflection- if possible)
If Manufacturer will not stand behind their product (installed here) then we will have to find another manufacturer that willOne way or another, it's becoming apparent that the siding is not going to miraculously stop "melting" unless the windows are removed - which isn't an option
We also feel that this is not an expense we should incur, and we will be looking to the manufacturer for re-imbursement
But, to answer the big question:
We stand behind our workWe stand behind the products we installThis is a phenomenon and, although we wish it was expedited before now, we are still sorting out what the problem is
Our direction today is to
A) first apologize for the mishaps along the way
B) grant you the desired outcomes you have asked for
We will find a new vinyl siding material that the manufacturer states will stand up to this window reflection issueIf we cannot find one, we will find a solution as a whole
(Maybe new glass or something)
*Note: One issue we found when first called to the home is that there is Aluminum Foil placed in the windows which is knowingly causing a major reflection problemThis would need to be addressed too
During new siding installation the window trim will be addressed
Downspout issue- we will have the guttering guys take a look and address thisI'm not sure why it's not working properly, but if a downspout is needed we will install it
Of course payment of the roofing and gutters would be greatly appreciated
Siding payment will be required upon satisfied completion
We hope that we can work together to resolve these issues smoothly
Again, sorry for any confusion, but re-siding a house is not a way to fix a small problemWe have been waiting for the manufacturer to respond about their product, but without any response, I am making the decision to move forward anyways in attempt to satisfy the most important people here, the client
Unfortunately, new siding may be our only resolution for this issue
Affordable Construction considers all clients as importantWe will continue to work on this issue to resolve itAs you can see, we have not been paid a dime on this job, nor have we requested a payment once we found out there were concernsI think we should work together to resolve this issue, but I also think this should not be a Revdex.com complaintOur business is a tough oneOur clients mean a lot to usOur desire to make this right should not warrant a complaint on our historyThe siding project cost us approximately $8000+ and to redo it will cost the sameWe have simply been waiting for a positive solution before we spend that kind of money again
We have spent $20,on this project and have not been paid $yet
Please review and consider removing this complaint
Full resolution is our desired outcome
Sincerely,
*** ***

Would NOT use this co. For anything did not finish there job and once the salesman was gone he kept telling us to contact the contractor witch just laughed at us and never came back to finish the job . So now after paying for a job promised we have a new door that don't open and a floor falling in. I watched one contractor rip a peace of window seal of never replaces it and just covered over it. So tell your friends and anyone you know not to use this co. They should be setting in jail for defrauding the public ...DO NOT USE THIS CO.

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/03/10) */
Affordable is aware of many of the complaints made by the customer. However, Affordable respectfully disagrees with the customer's allegations. We have made numerous attempts to resolve the decking issues (of which her insurance company...

did not allow and for which Affordable is not responsible), and we have attempted to resolve the customer's issues with an agreeable solution over a year ago without any further expense to the customer.
Affordable remains committed to resolving the complaints of the customer. We believe the issues are better discussed in detail over the phone or in person in order to come to an agreeable conclusion due to the limited space available in the Revdex.com process.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2015/03/17) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Our insurance adjuster said nothing about the patio and portico decking because there was ZERO wrong with it, UNTIL Affordable: (1) put 14 men on it at once; (2) breached our contract by using nails longer than our written contract expressly permitted; (3) shingled over and left boards with cracks and holes they made rather than replacing them before shingling; (4) replaced cedar boards they completely broke with pine rather than cedar; (5) stole large "splinters" they'd broken and 100-plus knots they knocked out to hide the evidence rather than gluing them back as we asked; (6) painted the ceiling side with white paint instead of staining like the portico was before. 100% of this damage to the decking was caused by Affordable. We have before-and-after photos to prove this.
Before contracting with Affordable, we had multiple conversations with their employee, [redacted], about the patio and portico decking needing more careful re-shingling work and shorter nails than an ordinary roof. But Affordable sent employees who did not speak English and left them with no supervisor, so none of our written or verbal instructions to [redacted] were followed. The result is they damaged our patio and portico ceilings.
Affordable's reply says we should meet in person instead of publicly exposing their work. They do not mention that 6 times in 2013 we asked Affordable to meet at our home. Most times, the person we'd already shown problems to before "no longer worked there," and we had to repeat to another Affordable employee. We wasted 10 hours doing this. Affordable's only offer was to spray foam in the 100-plus holes and cracks they'd created in the cedar decking and paint over it with heavy paint to hide their damage. After the "boss" left, 2 Affordable employees said that would NOT work because the foam would shrink and fall out. Affordable's employees said the only way to get back to where we were before Affordable's damage was to take off everything Affordable did and rebuild, re-shingle and re-stain both the portico and patio roofs/ceilings.
Affordable's employee, [redacted], first said Affordable would do this. We accepted that resolution reluctantly because the quality of their work and their supervision was so bad, but then they never showed up to do the work. When we called to ask why, [redacted] said the boss at Affordable backed out of this agreement. [redacted] then told us to write a proposal to settle the matter. We received [redacted]'s Dec 30, 2013 email saying Affordable received our written proposal. When we heard no more for a month, we called and were told [redacted] no longer worked there. Affordable's employee also told us, "they were not going to do anything, we could sue them, and that's what their insurance is for." Affordable's reply above deceptively omits all these facts.
After hearing nothing more from Affordable and never receiving a bill, we believed they would not do the work, but at least were not billing us since the cost of their damage was greater than their bill. More than a year after Affordable's work should have been done, we paid someone else to at least cosmetically mitigate their damages. Now, a year and a half after their work was supposed to be done, and after ignoring our requests for meetings and repairs, they sent their bill for collection.
Affordable needs to cancel its bill since repairing their damage will cost us more, and pay us the $10,000 difference in repair cost to put us back where we were. The decreased fair market value of our home resulting from their damage to the portico and patio also is greater than their bill.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 11, 2015/04/01) */
Affordable does not believe that we can resolve the consumer's complaints in this process. Affordable remains willing to visit the consumer and inspect the work performed so that we can try to resolve any differences with the consumer.
