Thank you for contacting us regarding Mr*** ***It has been a pleasure meeting himMany years ago we did build a fence for *** on one side of his propertyAnd the warranty has long ago expired. Mr*** contacted us the week of June 20th and I met with him at 11:00am on June 21st to evaluate his fence that was now beginning to leanWe did speak on the phone following that and I did say that we could repair the leaning at that time for $250.00. He did not authorize the repair order and we did not receive the down payment for commitment on ***'s partWe always have to have authorization to work on any ones propertyAnd of course the down paymentHowever, during the 4th of July weekend there was a very strong storm and Mr*** called to say that the fence had sections that had fallen down due to the extreme windsThere were several times that Mr*** did call during that holiday weekend that I did not answer. I do take off on Weekends and holidaysMy family humbly asks that from me. Mr*** also felt that we should in effect, build new sections of fence and still only ask $Unfortunately, I am not able to do thatI apologize for thatI do appreciate your assistance and I do wish Mr*** wellThank you

We will probably be out next week, pending the weather, and re-plumb the post at no additional charge

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID *** and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. We were not given the itemized invoice when we made the purchase, just a sales receipt with the type of unit describedWe received an itemized invoice showing the inflated amounts for delivery and set up only after set up was completeWe were not present as they had failed to call us before delivery as promisedOur house guest let them in afte calling us at work. This repo se fails to address the issue with excessive noise that led to us requesting a return and refundWe have since learned from a third party that the excess noise was likely due to the poor quality connection piece they used in the set upThe unit did not perform as quietly as the one in the showroomBasically, they have gauged us because they used a cheap partPicking another unit would not fix that issue

Thank you for the email concerning Mr*** ***It was a pleasure meeting ***Many years ago we built a fence for Mr*** on one side of his propertyUnfortunately there is no warranty on ***s fence and has not been for many yearsSeveral weeks ago *** contacted me and said the high

First, every customer is given an invoice/receipt (which states our return policy on it) when they make the order rather they pay for the unit at the time of ordering or if they wait to pay until it is installedAnother invoice is given to the customer when we install the log setI find it hard to
believe that Mr*** would give us eleven hundred dollars without some form of listing of what he had purchasedHowever even if: Mr *** was the one customer out of a thousand customers that did not receive a receipt, Mr *** was the one out of a thousand customers that did not receive an invoice when we installed the unit, Mr *** was the type of person that would give eleven hundred dollars to a store without an itemized list of what he purchased, Our return policy is posted on the wall at the window where the customers give us their personal information and payTo my knowledge, Grate Balls Afire has the most liberal return policy of any hearth store in LouisvilleEvery other hearth store will not take a log set back after it is taken out of the box and burnedOur return policy is no refund on labor (how can you return labor that was done) and a % restocking feeWe charge the 20% because it cost us at least that much to recover the unitFirst, I have to send an employee out to take out the unitThen once the unit is returned it has to have several things replaced that have been used such as lava rock (bags at $per bag) and embers (bag @$7)Finally we repaint and rebox the burner and rebox the logs and remoteFinally, Mr*** purchased a *** *** Vent-free log from usMr*** is free to call *** to confirm that there is no other burner (either more or less expensive) that can be used on that unit with a remoteThe log set that Mr*** said was different than the ones in the store has been restored and reboxed and sold to another customerWe have received no complaint from the customer about any noiseIf Mr*** wants to come into the store and pick out a *** Oak set from our inventory, we will sell it to him for the refunded amountOtherwise we will stick with our refund policy as it is stated

Mr [redacted] says at the time of purchase he recieved and I quote  "a sales receipt with the type of unit described" without the itemized cost of each part. I would like to see this sales recipt listing the products without the cost associated to the products. In fact, if Mr [redacted] can produce a sales receipt that says he purchased a [redacted] Oak log set and installation without the individual parts itemized and price I will refund the money in question.Grate Balls Afire uses the exact connectors recommended in the instruction manual. Mr [redacted] says some third party speculated that we may have used some inferior part to hook up his unit. Unless this third party is an NFI certified installer (the certification that virtually every manufacturer, including [redacted], suggest be earned by any installer) and he/she saw the installation prior to it being removed his/her speculation is meaningless. Finally, Mr [redacted] cashed the refund check. If Mr [redacted] did not agree with the refund he should not have taken the money

It appears that [redacted] does not clearly remember the events.  [redacted] gave me a figure of $250.00 to repair the fence and there was never a deposit mentioned.  This is the first time I have heard about a deposit.  He admitted that the concrete did not hold up as it should.  He said that he could get to it the next week and would call to let me know the day.  He did not call and did not show up.  I called him and he said he would come the next week, but, again, did not call or show up.  I called him many times after that and he WOULD NOT return any of the calls.  Affordable Fencing needs to stand by their products and service. All that I am asking is for him to repair the fence at the agreed upon amount and to do the job in a timely manner.  There is absolutely no reason for this to have happened, so I still request that he resolve this by taking care of the problem.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. There has been no effort or offer that would resolve our complaint. This merchant is simply offering excuses why they did not fix the excessive noisy product and then took and excessive install and restock fee. It's obvious that they have no desire to make things right.Unfortunatley, this Revdex.com approach offers no recourse with such a merchant. It's a shame (and a sham) that the Revdex.com has them as a member in good standing. I wish we had followed the social media reviews rather than relying on the Revdex.com rating. We will certainly be vocal in adding our experience to the review sites and advise our credit card company of this merchants poor practices.

[redacted]

There are several issues in the complaint that I would disagree but rather than have some "he said she said thing" happen, I will just say that [redacted] seemed so happy with our work, that he had us do addition work on the fireplace and his final payment was made on 9/20/2016 (about 5 months after...

we had completed the original project). I will also say that my deal was with [redacted] not his builder but because I was eventually forced to deal with his builder and his issues, problem arose. There is nothing like getting to work in the morning and have a message on the answering machine cussing you out about a job you finished 5 months before.  In his complaint, [redacted] says that the product he got from us was inferior to the product that he got from [redacted] purchased a $450 chase cap (no labor was charge) from me and a $1,300 chase cap from them (I would hope that the $1,300 chase cap was better than the $450 cap). By my way of thinking, that would be like going to a [redacted] dealer and buying a $15,000 car and then saying this car is inferior to the $25,000 car so [redacted] dealer should pay me $25,000 so I can get the better car. If [redacted] is unhappy with the cap we provided I will refund him the $450 he paid for the cap.

Review: Affordable Fencing installed a fence for me several years ago. I contacted them recently because the fence is now falling and will compromise our property and a carport in the same area. They initially contacted me and kept saying that they would be here in a few days, then it was "next week". After continuous calling both their [redacted]. phone number and [redacted] phone number, they have not responded. All I want is the work to be done in a professional way and not to be ignored. It appears and they agreed that more concrete was needed. The cost that I agreed on is $250.00, however, with the problems that I have had, they might offer a reduced price. I will honor the agreed upon amount in any event. This has been going on for at least 4-6 weeks and I need this repair made immediately.Desired Settlement: Proper repairs made to the fence in a professional and diligent manner. An apology for not responding with a reason would be nice, but not demanded.

Thank you for the email concerning Mr. [redacted]. It was a pleasure meeting [redacted]. Many years ago we built a fence for Mr. [redacted] on one side of his property. Unfortunately there is no warranty on [redacted]s fence and has not been for many years. Several weeks ago [redacted] contacted me and said the high winds this spring had caused his fence to begin leaning. At that time I told [redacted] that we could reinforce his fence for about $250. However, no agreement was ever sign and no deposit was ever received. The severe winds on the 4th of July weekend apparently caused more damage to [redacted]'s fence. [redacted] would like us to build a new fence for him for the $250 we quoted earlier but not to build a new fence. And the $250 estimate to reinforce the fence was never authorized to begin with. Thank you so much for your assistance and it was a pleasure meeting [redacted], however, we are not able to assist done with what he is wanting.

Review: Re: Installed fence partially on neighbors property. March 30,2007 Affordable Fencing was contracted to install fencing around the perimiter of our back yard. l was advised by the contractor to have my boundary lines surveyed. This was done by [redacted]. of Blacksburg, VA, on or about April 20,2007. The fence was installed and completed April 23, 2007. Recently our neighbor was preparing to have some work done on his driveway which abuts our property; he pointed out that part on our fence is on his land. I contacted [redacted]. and had the property line re-surveyed and it was determined that indeed part of the fence is on the neighbors property. I contacted Affordable Fencing and owner M. Finney came by and in essence said the survey at the time was wrong and/or "we put the fence where the owner wants it". My contention is the installers did not follow the property line designated by the survey results; and it would be ludicrous that I, as owner, would tell him to disregard the survey and put that section on the neighbors property.Desired Settlement: Move the offending portion of fence to conform to surveyed boundary line without charge.

Response:

Good morning Ms. [redacted]. thank you for the email concerning Mr. [redacted]. We installed a 4' tall wood fence for Mr. [redacted] almost 6 1/2 years ago at his request. Last week Mrs. [redacted] called me and asked if I would be able to stop over and offer any suggestions on their situation since their neighbor is now widening their driveway and had a survey completed and the fence is partially on their property. I can sincerely empathize with their situation. Six and a half years ago is a long time ago, however, our policy is still the same. We do not tell a customer where their property lines are and we are not surveryors. If you do not know where your respective property lines are, it is in their best interest to hire a surveyor. We also do not know any surveyors personally, nor do we recommend anyone. I just simply do not know any one in that line of work. I do remember [redacted] 6 1/2 years ago. He told us (as everyone has to do) where their property lines were and where he was comfortable with the installation and he personally directed where to install the fence. He was outside with us practically the entire installation to ensure that installation was done properly. During my visit last week, I mentioned to Mr. [redacted] , that we would be happy to remove and install that side of the fence, but we would have to charge for the work and material. He henceforth began to threaten myself and my future son in law who just happened to be with me since it was an unscheduled stop ( he and my daughter are marrying this Saturday) and I was slightly insulted. Thank you very much for your assistance and I hope that you have a wonderful day, Mike, Affordable Fencing.

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. Basis points of this complaint: 1. All corner rods were located and clearly marked by the surveyor - [redacted]. 2. My directions to Mr. Finney at the time of installation were to adhere to the property boundaries. 3. Mr. Finney remedy of August 15th was unacceptable. I advised him of this and indicated that I would pursue this matter through other venues, and walked away. If that action was perceived as a "threat" by Mr. Finney, so be it. I am ** years old and do not have a physical presence that would be considered threatening to anyone. Regards,[redacted]

Review: The posts for my fence were not concreted properly and the integrity of the fence is now compromised.Desired Settlement: I would like for the business to come correct their poor work on my nearly $7,000 fence. I contacted the business several weeks ago and they have not had the professionalism to return my call.
