I contracted with Nichols to repave my exsiting driveway, add another 700 SF of asphalt, wrap that in a stone block wall, and put in belguim block along both sides of the driveway. Build a 12X24 ft pad with stone and wrap that in 6X6 pressure treated posts.
A rather large and pricey job for residental.
When the job was finished, Nichols came by for the balance and than said he needed an extra $500.00 for the extra 6X6 posts he used without ever giving me a heads up but I paid it with no questions. Turns out the pad was 2 feet short from what I asked for which was 24 feet. He did return the next week to make it right but he had no problem asking me for more money because of extra posts when if fact it was the wrong size that was needed. Within 6 months of the job the concrete border that holds in the belguim started to crack in several spots.
I called Nichols about the problem and he said to call him back in the spring and he would come out to inspect it. I did just that and he came out in April and said he would correct it and that he would come back in May when it's warmer. May came and went and I never saw him so I waited until July and called him again with no response. My first thought was that this business is a bunch of "Gypsies" who go from town to town do a job, get paid and you never see them again.
Turns out that's just what I heard from other people on the street that also had dealings with G. Nichols.
