Affordable Garage Door Reviews (1)

Review: I had my garage doors repaired and parts replaced less than a year ago. When deciding to have more done than my original need for service I did it based on the salesmen's word that multiple things needed to be replaced and would be covered if issues arose in the future. Since the doors had not been serviced in 10years, his recommendations made sense. I choose to fix everything he recommended. This cost $250. Last week, the cable that was replaced popped. I called to have it fixed and the gentleman I spoke to responded that it wasn't covered for replacement because the original repairman didn't put it on the receipt. Because of this, he refused to make the required repairs and attempted to get me to pay an additional $125 to have them come correct the issue. This is unfair and very unprofessional. I would not recommend this company to anyone!!Desired Settlement: Honor the warranty as promised and fix the issue.

hank you for the feedback and the opportunity to address the concerns of our customer. On 01/31/13 we performed a service call for [redacted] for a broken garage door system. The customer had filed a claim with her home warranty company because the system was malfunctioning. Upon arrival at the residence and diagnosing the garage door and opener system, we found there to be worn springs, worn pulley wheels, and two complete systems in need of general maintenance, lubing, repair parts, and adjustments. At that time, we were obliged to charge her $65.00 under her home warranty policy as prescribed by the home warranty company for this denied claim (this policy includes coverage for failed parts on the garage door opener but the garage door—and any routine maintenance—is not covered). However; we told her that we would quote the necessary repairs and if she chose to have the repairs completed by Affordable Garage Door, we would waive the $65.00 fee that the home warranty company tells us to charge their customers.

The customer agreed to have us replace eight pulley wheels (listed as “sheave wheels” on the invoice) and two extension springs. As such, we did not charge the $65 service call and diagnostic fees. Additionally, we supplied and programmed one new remote transmitter. As part of this service call, we performed all maintenance, lubing, and adjustments to the two door systems that was desperately needed. When we left the residence, everything was functioning normally and all routine annual maintenance was complete.

In late October of this year, the customer called and stated that one of the cables we installed had broken. Upon researching the invoice and work we completed in January, it was evident that no cables were replaced. Additionally, the customer emailed us pictures of the broken cable and it was more than obvious that the cable was not new, it was the original cable. We quoted the customer a discounted service call to replace the cable and the customer stated that she still thought the cables were new and had been replaced just nine months ago.

A couple days later, the customer called back to ask us if we routinely replace cables when springs are replaced and we told her no, we do not replace cables as a matter of habit, we only replace cables when they are broken or frayed as cables are not rated for cycles. Cables do not break on every garage door unlike springs and sheaves that will always wear out and break with normal usage.

In summary, we performed service in January that did not include replacing the cable(s), we waived a $65.00 fee that was supposed to be charged but was not charged (at our discretion), a cable broke about 9 months later, we have quoted a minimal service call/fee to replace that cable, and the last we’ve heard is the complaint to the Revdex.com.
